Job Description

As a Senior Database Platform Engineer, you will help transform Oracle database operations into a fully automated, secure, and scalable platform. Working within an agile delivery team, you will design and maintain automation across the entire database lifecycle, ensuring reliable, auditable, and resilient database services while minimizing manual intervention.

Your key tasks

  • Automate the complete Oracle database lifecycle, including provisioning, cloning, refresh, reconfiguration, backup, restore, and decommissioning using Terraform, Ansible, and scripting.
  • Develop and maintain automation that provisions databases to Avaloq standards and performs post-clone configuration without manual intervention.
  • Deliver and operate automated workflows for day-to-day database operations, including restart, resize, housekeeping, parameter changes, Oracle Home switches, and standard incident recovery actions.
  • Manage database configuration and parameters through GitOps practices, ensuring full version control, traceability, and auditability.
  • Build and enhance backup, recovery, and disaster recovery automation, including Data Guard Broker switchovers, instance recovery, and DR testing.
  • Drive platform standardization through immutable infrastructure by maintaining operating system and Oracle Home images that eliminate configuration drift and reduce maintenance effort.
  • Automate large-scale database refreshes across ACP and non-ACP environments and maintain the central automation framework supporting development, testing, and support teams.
  • Manage database security by overseeing the TDE key lifecycle, secrets management, and privileged access controls, ensuring secure and auditable encryption at rest.
  • Contribute code, participate in peer reviews, run CI/CD pipelines, and collaborate closely with Cloud Architects, Platform Engineers, Service Operations, Software Architects, and operational DBAs.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as an Oracle DBA or Database Engineer in a production, mission-critical environment.
  • University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a comparable field.
  • Strong hands-on Oracle expertise, including installation, patching, upgrades, Oracle Home and parameter management, Data Guard, RMAN, backup and recovery, TDE, cloning, refreshes, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Proven experience in automation using Ansible, Terraform or OpenTofu, Git, GitOps, CI/CD pipelines, and scripting in Python and Shell. You have successfully replaced manual operational processes with code.
  • Solid understanding of public cloud platforms, preferably OCI, as well as Linux, storage, networking, secrets management, and container technologies such as Kubernetes.
  • Experience working in regulated and security-conscious environments with strong knowledge of auditability, segregation of duties, vulnerability management, and patch management. Experience within financial services is considered an advantage.
  • Strong engineering mindset focused on automation, infrastructure as code, reliability, and continuous improvement.
  • Effective communication skills in English and the ability to collaborate within international, agile, and distributed teams. German and/or Italian are considered an asset.
