Job Description

We are looking for a DevOps Middleware Engineer for a team of motivated, enthusiastic and committed colleagues who always take the time to look at complex issues from all sides, who together master the challenges of day-to-day business, and who make the job of "running the bank" in Avaloq a success.
On our way to the cloud, we are providing an ever-increasing range of microservices to best combine availability and scalability.

Your key tasks

Infrastructure, Cloud & Automation

  • Define and deploy infrastructure components in Terraform for Oracle (OCI).
  • Manage containers on OpenShift (OCP) or Kubernetes clusters (provisioning, scaling, upgrades, networking, security, observability).
  • Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) pipelines for scalable, predictable deployments.
  • Use modern technologies to continuously improve and automate system operations.
  • Set up, operate, monitor, and maintain systems required to deliver Avaloq services.

Middleware & Application Servers

  • Administer and configure middleware components.
  • Administer and configure web application servers and J2EE application servers (JBoss, WebLogic, Tomcat).
  • Perform middleware refreshment, patching, and full lifecycle maintenance.
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and administration of enterprise applications.

Operations, Reliability & ITSM

  • Participate in ITSM processes:
    performance, service, change, asset, incident, and problem management.
  • Manage L2/L3 tickets in collaboration with strategic 3rd‑party suppliers.
  • Participate in 7×24 on‑call rotation, including early/late shifts.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot complex technical issues across middleware, cloud, and infrastructure layers.

Automation, Scripting & Documentation

  • Develop automation and monitoring scripts.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with specialists from multiple domains to support cross‑area activities.

Messaging & Integration

  • Work with queues and message exchange mechanisms (JMS‑style or equivalent).
  • (Nice to have) Experience with IBM MQ.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science or IT, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong Linux knowledge (Windows is a plus).
  • Understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, MPLS, peering, hub & spoke).
  • Experience with at least one cloud provider (Oracle preferred).
  • Hands‑on experience with Terraform, Ansible, Git (IaC).
  • Strong CI/CD background: Jenkins, GitHub, CloudInit.
  • Basic understanding of software development.
  • Experience analyzing technical problems and automating recurring tasks.
  • Experience with J2EE servers (JBoss, WebLogic, Tomcat).
  • Secure Data Transfer expertise (SFTP, queue management).
  • Knowledge of SSL and digital certificates.
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines while handling multiple tasks.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, customer focus, and a positive attitude.
  • Strong proficiency in English communication
