Job Description

Summary 
The Director of Engineering is responsible for the exterior and interior maintenance and upkeep of the hotel and all areas directly surrounding it. The Director of Engineering provides leadership, planning, organization, and direction for the entire hotel Engineering department. This is an operational manager position which will include some maintenance engineer job duties. 

The budgeted salary range for this position is $85,000 - $102,000. Actual pay will be dependent on budget and experience, all our salaried roles are eligible for bonus.

Essential Job Functions
•    Assist and oversee the Engineering Manager with management of the Engineering department and vendor operations
•    Assist in Capital Budget planning 
•    Lead Department and Assigned Capital Projects 
•    Assist in department budget planning  
•    Recruit, schedule, lead, coach, train & mentor staff to ensure 5-Star standards are met 
•    Assist to ensure all labor and expense budgets are followed and anticipate/address potential overages in budget and communicate action taken to the Director of Operations
•    Assist in the bi-weekly payroll duties
•    Create an enjoyable, secure work environment, reviewing employee’s personal goals and objectives, and practicing friendly, sincere management
•    Ensure all compliance standards are met; maintain Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), including Global Harmonized System for chemicals (GHS), regulations, Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Brand Standards 
•    Makes financial decisions as it relates to the day by day operation
•    Facilitate employee reviews in accordance with company timeframes
•    Assist in the development of procedures, operating criteria and standards of performance for all areas directly supervised
•    Responsible for purchasing and inventory 
•    Ensure all work orders are tracked/completed/prioritized per company standards
•    Respond to and complete all general maintenance requests as needed, to include all areas inside and outside of the hotel & related properties
•    Provide supervision and direction of engineering technicians; perform safety inspections
•    Identify process improvements and best practices
•    Oversee the property facilities management which includes owner relationships, property walks, budget preparation and day by day needs
•    Ensures that all guest requests and room calls are addressed timely 
•    Address safety hazards and report suspicious persons or activities to management
•    Adhere to all safety standards set by the hotel, city and state ordinances
•    Be available for emergency calls and be able to respond adequately
•    Set up and execute preventative maintenance programs
•    Ensure that the Director of Operations and General Manager are made aware of guest comments and concerns
•    Be familiar with hotel fire and safety procedures and assist in the event of an emergency and/or security event as directed by management
•    Complete tasks, projects and assist other departments as business volumes and staff levels demand
•    Oversight of Loss Prevention
•    Ensure Fire Life Safety compliance for all areas
•    Ensure compliance with Accounting and Sr. DOE knowledge of Esker and Evisort a plus.

Qualifications

•    College degree preferred
•    3 years facility management experience preferred
•    Strong organizational, team building and communication skills 
•    Strong background in building maintenance, including electrical, plumbing and HVAC
•    Knowledge of hotel operations and familiar with the construction process
•    Licensed/certified CPO, CPR & OSHA certified
•    Competent with computer programs such as Microsoft Office
•    Ability to analyze numbers and understand their impact on project cost and budgeting
•    Previous maintenance/construction experience is required 
•    Knowledgeable of and experience with elevators, power, water and sewer distribution; fire codes and fire protection; ADA, EPA specifically with hotel mechanical equipment
•    Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) language skills a plus

Supervision Given and Received 
Given: Exercises general supervision over Engineering staff. Assigns a variety of routine tasks, sets general expectations of results expected within company’s policies and procedures. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 
Received: Works under limited supervision of the General Manager. Receives guidance in terms of broad goals and overall objectives and is responsible for establishing strategical methods to attain them. Can formulate policies but does not necessarily have final authority for approval. Review of work is not detailed and emphasizes accomplishment of broad work objectives, rather than specific assignments.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
•    Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand, walk or be on your feet for extended periods of time
•    Regularly work in wet, hot and humid conditions for extended periods of time and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces
•    Must be able to lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance
