Job Description

Summary  

The Assistant Store Manager assists the ASPENX Store Manager in the operation of the ASPENX store. As a team, the Manager and Assistant Manager are responsible for providing exceptional customer service and a positive, safe and productive work environment for store employees while striving to meet sales and profitability goals. The Assistant Manager has primary responsibility for store presentation, product inventory and maintenance of the rental fleet. The secondary responsibility is taking on all aspects of the store operation on days, shifts or times when the manager is not present. 

The budgeted salary range for this position is $54,376 – $76,126. Actual pay will be dependent on budget and experience, all our salaried roles are eligible for bonus. 

Essential Job Functions 

  • Maintains a fun, safe, energetic Aspen ski/snowboard lifestyle ambiance in the store  
  • Assists sales associates in completing difficult sales  
  • Listens to customer complaints, examines returned merchandise and resolves problems to restore and promote excellent customer service and public relations  
  • Assists manager in supervising and coordinating activities of store employees, including but not limited to scheduling, assigning duties and overseeing job performance  
  • Trains and coaches employees in product knowledge, store policies, department procedures and job duties  
  • Coaches product knowledge to the staff to ensure all guests receive the right product for their ability level, interest or need  
  • Performs, or assists manager in performing safety training and documentation, interviewing and hiring new employees, and payroll timekeeping, ensuring timely and accurate pay for all employees  
  • Responsible for merchandising, displaying, fronting and restocking of the retail and/or rental space in conjunction with Merchandising and Buying teams  
  • Maintains a finely tuned rental fleet and retail inventory, guaranteeing that all sizes of product are available  
  • Proficient with all levels of retail and rental Point of Sale systems  
  • Helps the store manager with daily operations and with striving to meet stated objectives in sales, profitability and expense management  
  • Responsible for the correct processing of potential liability issues: documentation, equipment testing, follow-up with legal department, etc.  
  • Responsible for re-ordering rental and/or retail product from the warehouse  
  • Records delivery of merchandise, compares record with merchandise ordered and enters discrepancies in order to control costs and maintain correct inventory levels  
  • Inspects merchandise to ensure it is correctly priced and displayed  
  • Responsible for the correct processing of warrantee items and damaged goods  
  • Makes product recommendations to Buying team  
  • Performs opening and closing duties of the store and enforces loss prevention policies and procedures  
  • Prepares store for end-of-season product inventory and assists with actual scanning/counting during inventory 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience of working in a retail operation required  
  • High School diploma or equivalent required  
  • Supervisory experience preferred  
  • Experience in recreation or winter sports industry preferred  
  • Excellent customer service skills  
  • Ability to maintain a customer-focused environment  
  • Basic math and Excel skills  
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a team  
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule of days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Able to stand for an 8-hour + shift  
  • Familiarity with Resort Technology Partners (RTP), Counterpoint and/or Kronos software a plus  
  • Must be certified or able to become certified in ski binding torque testing and DIN settings  
  • College degree preferred  
  • Knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese preferred

Supervision Given and Received   
Supervision given:  Exercises general supervision over ASPENX store staff.  Assigns a variety of routine tasks, sets general expectations of results expected within company’s policies and procedures. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 
Supervision received: Works under general supervision of ASPENX General Manager. Receives continuing or individual assignments according to supervisor’s directions and may perform routine tasks. Expectations of the quality, quantity and deadlines are clearly set. Instructions, advice and assistance available as needed. Work is reviewed on demand or during scheduled check-ins. 

Work Environment and physical demands 
Ability to stand, walk or be on your feet for extended periods of time. Kneeling and bending may be required 
Regularly work indoors with no adverse conditions. Some positions require exposure to outdoor elements or a combination of both indoors and outdoors and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces   
Must be able to lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance (weight limits can vary according to position, but no more than 50)
