Job Description
Ashburn Consulting is looking for a mid to senior level experienced Systems / Enterprise Engineer to support enterprise managed file transfer (MFT) operations, Linux and Windows systems, cybersecurity tools, servers, storage, networks, and cloud environments. The role requires strong technical judgment, communication, documentation, training, planning, and follow-up skills, with the ability to support both day-to-day operations and longer-term planning, including market research and preliminary cost estimation for alternative solutions. Core Responsibilities: • Support Linux servers, storage, enterprise infrastructure, and related environments both on-premises and in cloud. • Administer and troubleshoot network, storage, server, application, and system issues. • Support Axway MFT / Secure Transport and related on-premise and in-cloud environments. • Support secure, application-agnostic bulk file and data transfer solutions for structured, unstructured, and large-volume enterprise data exchanges across heterogeneous systems and external partners. • Assist with Symantec DLP and SPE-related activities. • Coordinate tasks with internal teams, customers, and third-party vendors; track work items and follow up to ensure completion. • Prepare technical documentation, procedures, runbooks, instructions, and support materials; train support staff and users as needed. • Support short-term and long-term planning, proactive issue prevention, market research, preliminary cost estimation,
modernization, alternative solution assessment, and migration planning. • Provide continuity and technical support coverage when technical leadership is unavailable.
Qualifications
• Experience in deploying, support and knowledge of Rocky Linux (8.9 and 9.x); and Windows OS 2022. • 5+ years experience with Linux administration and enterprise servers, networks, and systems. AWS Cloud Essential: • 3+ years experience in cloud environments and working knowledge with AWS services like EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Terraform, GitLab, ARM, AWF, ACM, EFS, S3, Transit Gateway. • Understanding of cloud networking (VCP, AZ, Security Groups, ALB, NLB). • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, CloudFormation or AWS CDK. • Exposure to AWS security best practices and hands-on experience with AWS CLI and Management Console. • Amazon Relational Database Services, AWS Aurora PostgreSQL, AWS MySQL, and Amazon RDS on Oracle. Axway Secure Transport / MFT Fundamentals: • 5+ years experience with managed file transfer solutions, including enterprise bulk file/data transfer patterns supporting multiple business systems and external partners. • Understanding of secure file transfer protocols (SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS, SSL). • Familiar with Axway ST set up, configuration, troubleshooting, and integration with authentication systems (LDAP, AD, OKTA, 2-Factor Auth). • Awareness of SSL/TLS encryption and certification management and familiarity with Axway Sentinel. • Experience supporting automated, secure, scalable, reliable, and high-volume enterprise transfer workflows is preferred. Cybersecurity / Access / Data Protection: • 5+ years knowledge of cybersecurity tools and practices. • Familiar with data encryption (Data in Use, Data at Rest, Data in Motion). • Authentication such as OKTA and Netskope remote access. • Experience with Symantec DLP and SPE is preferred. Scripting / DevOps / Troubleshooting: • Basic understanding of scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation. • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git/Maintainer. • Basic troubleshooting skills for system and network issues.
• Familiar with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or AWS CodePipeline.
Qualifications: Additional Skills and Capabilities: • Strong analytical and practical problem-solving abilities with broad technical judgment and strong attention to detail. • Effective written and verbal communication, collaboration, customer support, and cross-functional coordination skills. • Strong documentation, organization, multi-project planning, follow-up, accountability, and process adherence, with frequent accurate updates from near-term tasks to long-term goals. • Ability to coordinate multiple work streams effectively and work independently and responsibly. • Experience with solution analysis, market research, preliminary cost estimation, procedures, runbooks, and end-user instructions. • Experience with vendor management, external coordination, alternative MFT solution assessment, modernization, migration, and future transition planning. • Experience with large-scale, application-independent data transfer architectures and the ability to support enterprise data movement strategy beyond a single product or platform. • Ability to understand the big picture and translate it into actionable steps while supporting diverse enterprise mission needs.
