Job Description

The Underwriting assistant is responsible for interpreting, analyzing, and processing various activities in support of property and casualty insurance/reinsurance operations. The candidate will need to perform activities with a high degree of accuracy and consistently meet service level requirements.

  • Duties and responsibilities to include but are not limited to:
    • Download data from clients web portal
    • Accurately and promptly capture submission data in the company’s Underwriting system (s)
    • Handle the timely tasking and maintenance of submissions
    • Accurate and timely input of data on all bound contracts and their maintenance
    • Process Addenda and adjustment of data as required
    • Liaise with other departments within the Arch group when required
    • Assist with the tracking of large losses on quota share treaties according to the company’s procedures
    • Generation and presentation of reports when required
    • Assist with ensuring that all bound files meet SOX Compliance in accordance with the Company’s policies
    • Assist with the maintenance of electronic filing of all files, including memo claim files
    • Perform Adhoc tasks as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Ability to understand and interpret Property and Casualty reinsurance contract terms and conditions
  • Good understanding of reinsurance accounting
  • Strong team player, detailed and goal oriented
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and work with tight dead-lines during peak periods
  • Fast learner with good energy and understanding for adapting to a constant changing environment
  • A natural ability to use initiative and self-manage, with ability to handle confidential information with absolute discretion
  • Strong work ethics and the ability to take initiative and work independently within a team
  • Very strong analytical, documentation, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Strong computer skills, in particular, proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications

Desired Skills:

  • Understanding of accounting for quota share and excess of loss contracts
  • Knowledge of underwriting systems
