Job Description
Apex is seeking an energetic and organized professional to join our Public Engagement Department as a Public Engagement Associate. In this role, you will help to support the 20-person Public Engagement team with administrative tasks (70%) as well as light graphic design and multiple websites maintenance (30%).
The right candidate will be a hard-working team player who enjoys jumping in to support team needs from a variety of angles. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Public Engagement, this position requires excellent communication and exemplary organizational skills, a superb ability to keep track of multiple activities and deadlines, and comfort with shifting priorities. Our ideal candidate has demonstrated work experience with administrative duties, data entry and maintenance, basic graphic design and website editing, and comfort using multiple software platforms.
Previous experience in event planning, political campaigns, public relations, or public affairs is a plus but not necessary. We are looking for a candidate who is self-motivated with excellent communication and interpersonal skills but who is willing to learn and gain experience in communications, marketing, local government processes, organizing, events, and the renewable energy industry. Candidates who possess problem solving and analysis skills, as well as a strong personal commitment to renewable energy, business, and/or rural economic development will be well-suited for this role.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage, update, and maintain Apex's media tracking and reporting for each project via a media tracking service
- Maintain Apex’s proprietary digital resource library
- Assist with collecting, uploading, and updating project data
- Submit, manage, and track purchase requests
- Manage the Public Engagement team credit cards, including receipts, monthly reports for accounting, and making purchases as needed
- Compile, submit, and track promotional and marketing material orders (shirts, hats, cups, etc.).
- Assist with mailing marketing and communications materials
- Assist the Design Manager with updates to project information sheets, event invitations, other printed and digital collateral materials using Adobe Design Suite
- Manage and update website content, providing ongoing maintenance and support as needed
- Help plan and coordinate community events taking place across our project-portfolio
- Represent Apex Clean Energy at various business, government, and community meetings and events as needed
- Support Public Engagement Managers in keeping projects on track and promptly addressing new demands
- Research, draft, and edit one-pagers, infographics, presentations, and reports for strategic outreach
- Draft and update talking points for community issues
- Draft letters of support for renewable energy for various audiences
- Develop and implement efficient processes for gathering necessary information to streamline task completion.
Qualifications
To succeed as a Public Engagement Associate at Apex Clean Energy, you’ll need to excel within the following criteria:
- Bachelor's degree in political science, public relations, communications, or a related field, or 2-4+ years of relevant experience preferred
- Strong passion for communications, public affairs, and community organizing
- Enthusiasm for administration and project management
- Exceptional planning and organizational skills with a system-oriented mindset
- Positive, patient, adaptable, and helpful attitude, ready to assist with a variety of tasks
- Team-oriented attitude with willingness to support the team wherever needed
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work proactively and efficiently with minimal supervision
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Familiarity with Adobe Design Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and/or Photoshop)
- Experience with web-based content management systems (i.e. Webflow, WordPress, etc.) is a plus
- Familiarity with Borealis or similar CRM software and Phone2Action or similar advocacy tools is preferred
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technology platforms

Work Environment:
Works primarily traditional office hours in an indoor office environment. Flexible work hours allowed when work duties and business operations permit.
