Job Description
This position will drive the site’s safety learning culture, ensuring that all incidents, near misses, and high potential events generate meaningful, actionable insights that strengthen operational risk management. The role coordinates and executes activities related to incident investigation, sharing of learnings from De Beers Group and industry, field engagements with crews to validate safe work practices and reinforce critical controls, and ensure compliance to the safety systems at the mine.
This is a fixed-term contract position to March 2027,
Key responsibilities:
- Coordinate timely initiation of investigations, ensuring supervisors and the investigation team understand expectations, timelines, and required documentation;
- Facilitate incident investigations, identify root cause and ensuring learnings are shared and actions are developed to prevent repeat incidents;
- Ensure continuous adherence to legal requirements, standards and organizational objectives and facilitate timely reporting as required;
- Perform site inspections/audits in accordance with the inspection program, to identify all non-compliant equipment and/or processes and provide feedback to area owners along with guidance and recommendations to resolve any outstanding issues;
- Assist teams during high-risk tasks to ensure compliance with site standards, procedures and regulatory requirements;
- Provide real-time coaching to teams on hazard recognition, control application, and lessons learned from incidents.
- Participate and lead bowties;
- Audit / Gap Assessments for fatal or AA Control Standards;
- Conduct weekly safety meetings. Develop meaningful and informative Monthly Topics and Safety Shares;
- Assist the Safety. Health and Risk department with Safety initiatives, campaigns and projects
Reporting to the Safety, Health, and Risk Superintendent. The role is based within the Safety, Health and Risk department. This is a site based position with a 14 days on / 14 days off rotation.
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or related field; or
- Completion of Grade 12 and post-secondary training in Health and/or Safety.
- CRSP (Canadian Registered Industrial Safety Professional) preferred or;
- Willing to achieve CRSP designation in given period of time.
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in the capacity of a Safety and Health Coordinator/Advisor.
- Mining industry experience (preferably open pit) with operation in a remote site.
- Experience in emergency response, mine rescue or similar will be an asset.
- A record of strong safety performance and familiarity with safety systems, procedures and work practices.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with employees of various cultural backgrounds at all levels of the organization.
- Proven ability to work strategically both within and external to the department.
