PURPOSE
The Financial Controls and Compliance Specialist is responsible for supporting Anglo American Group (including Corporate) in meeting global and local compliance requirements related to Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR). The role serves as a key advisor on financial controls, ensuring effective implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of compliance processes, while partnering with stakeholders across the business to strengthen governance, mitigate risk, and maintain robust financial reporting standards.
TYPICAL TASKS
- Support the implementation and maintenance of financial reporting control standards across business units and functions.
- Deliver training and guidance to stakeholders on financial controls and compliance requirements.
- Assess the impact of business process changes on financial compliance and internal controls.
- Support the management and maintenance of Risk and Control Matrices (RACMs) and control documentation.
- Facilitate control self-assessments and risk-based control reviews.
- Evaluate control testing results and coordinate remediation plans with relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor and track remediation actions to ensure timely closure of control gaps.
- Support periodic control attestations and compliance reporting activities.
- Manage local fraud risk and Segregation of Duties (SoD) compliance in collaboration with IT teams.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors, supporting audit activities and management responses.
- Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across finance, compliance, and business functions.
Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related discipline.
Experience:
- 5 - 8 years experience working in a Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) environment, either within a SOX-listed organization or as an audit/advisory professional supporting SOX registrants.
- Strong understanding of Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) and SOX requirements.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders across multiple functions.
- Advanced English level – Mandatory.
- Intermediate Portuguese proficiency – Preferred.
