We have an exciting position for an Automated Drill Operator FTE who will drill and control autonomous drilling machines to ensure holes are drilled for production-related activities according to the drill block plan within the time schedules, budgetary limits and safety standards.

Job Description
As an Automated Drill Operator FTE, you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Operate a remote-controlled drill using the installed technology.
- Provide feedback on drill performance to ensure algorithms align with pit conditions and bit preferences.
- Decide which drill bits to use for each block.
- Conduct risk assessments and give feedback on remote-controlled drilling, focusing on day-to-day operations and standard operating procedures.
- Perform general mining and drilling responsibilities during operations.
- Safely declare the drilling area before issuing drilling commands
- Analyze information on the command centre screen to identify problems and initiate solutions.
- Instruct field operators on deviations and solutions to prevent production disruptions.
- Identify deviations or non-conformances and implement corrective actions to achieve the production plan.
- Inspect equipment before the shift for functionality and safety.
- Record equipment inspections according to prescribed standards at the beginning of the shift.
- Check fire extinguishers and lock-out devices, reporting any deviations immediately to the supervisor and dispatch.
- Conduct visual inspections of equipment condition at the end of each shift and report deviations to the supervisor and dispatch.
This role is in the Mining (MIN) department at a P4 (C-Lower) level reporting to Shift Supervisor.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 Certificate / N3 Technical
- Red Permit
- Valid Dover Certificate
- Relevant Equipment Licenses (e.g., CAT MD6540, One Touch Drilling, Autonomous Remote Drilling)
- Competency A (advantageous)
- SA Driver’s Licence: Code B (Light Vehicle)
Experience
- 2-3 years of relevant drilling/ mining operations experience.
- In-depth knowledge of the operational equipment systems, e.g., collision prevention and fire suppression systems.
- Mining Operational Equipment Knowledge.
- Understanding of mining operations.
- Familiarity with equipment and tools.
- Proficiency in computer usage.
- Awareness of primary fault finding and identification.
- Knowledge of decision-making processes for prioritising problem-solving actions.
- Insights into pre-shift inspection protocols.
- Awareness of traffic rules.
- Understanding reporting procedures.
- Knowledge of company policies and procedures.
