Steelmaking Coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.
Dawson Mine is a large and dynamic open cut steelmaking coal mine operation. It commenced operations in 1961 and is one of the oldest coal mining operations in Central Queensland. Dawson Mine was the first mine in Australia to export coal to Japan in 1961 and was the first mine to introduce draglines into its operation in 1963.
Job Description
As the Coal Scheduler (Geologist), you will be required to deliver scheduling services for the Operational Department by ensuring the development of accurate and timely Coal delivery. You would provide coal mining advice on how to optimise the value of current and proposed production areas. You will interface closely with the Operational Team to ensure that the activities support production plans. A core priority for this role is to apply disciplined and proven methods of coal scheduling to ensure a fit-for-purpose short-term plan is developed, resourced and communicated so that assets are maintained at optimum levels for the business.
Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, this role will see you:
- Contribute to the Safety performance of the mine.
- Correlate weekly site rom delivery and the 12-week schedule.
- Produce weekly 10-day coal convey schedule (stockpile strategy, maintenance, CHPP wash, stacking and sequence).
- Develop and issue detailed coaling plans to stakeholders.
- Ensure stacking and ROM instructions provide for optimal use of stockpiles and prevent becoming stock bound.
- Provide feedback to Operational Planning (Medium and Short-Term Planning Teams) to ensure accurate business planning and process compliance.
- Support minimization of coal loss and contamination and continuous process improvement to ensure quality coal tonnes delivered to CHPP
- Attend and engage in meetings such as coal scheduling meetings, coal supply chain meetings and weekly planning meetings.
Qualifications
To be successful you will have the following:
- Tertiary qualifications in Geological Sciences or equivalent experience.
- At least two years experience in mining, preferably open cut coal mining.
- Experience with 3D modelling software packages would be preferable.
- An understanding of operational geology and the coal mining process.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to influence and achieve buy in from key stakeholders.
- A high level of strategic thinking, planning and problem-solving ability.
- An understanding of key safety risks and ways to mitigate these.
