This role is based at Tumela Mine, Thabazimbi, South Africa and is a Fixed Term Contract for 3 years

Job Description

The Master Boilermaker possess advanced technical knowledge (both theory and practical) aligned to an in-house skills matrix and development plan.

Roles and responsibilities include the below:

  • Ensure readily after hour availability when on standby
  • Ensure proper and adequate on the job training and coaching is provided to subordinates, learners or support personnel and contractors
  • Ensure that material, spares and equipment are available as required
  • Perform annual SIMM inspections on the structural aspects of mechanical installations (conveyor gantries, filter press frames, overhead cranes, etc.)
  • Perform planned task observations on subordinate, learners or support personnel and contractors.
  • Stop all unsafe activities, practices, and machinery.
  • Report any risk associated with non-compliance or inability to comply with standards, specifications, procedures and documents relating to the discipline.
  • Assist with identification of mitigating measures to control risks and resolve emerging safety issues.
  • Provide inputs and support into accident and incident analyses
  • Apply first aid as may be required during emergencies.
  • Assist with the identification of specialist tools and facilities to enable efficient maintenance, repairs and fault finding.
  • Assist and advise the engineer on critical spares relating to structures and structural components of mechanical equipment needs and gaps.
  • Personally, perform all specialised tasks as per task matrix.
  • Obtain specialised knowledge from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM`s) and external specialists on the maintenance and testing of complex systems with the intention to develop and execute in-house procedures
  • Contractor and Specialist provider scope development, management and quality assessments
  • Actively pursue with the intention to obtain specialised knowledge from Original Equipment
  • Manufacturers and external specialists on the maintenance and testing of complex systems with the intention to develop and execute in-house procedures.

The role is at a C3 level reporting to the Foreman.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12
  • N4 Boilermaker qualification
  • Boilermaker Trade Test
  • CO2 – MIG (Metal Inert Gas)
  • TIG – (Tungsten Inert Gas)
  • NACE Level – 2  

Experience

  • 8 years’ experience of which 5 years as a qualified boilermaker within the mining of heavy industrial sectors  

Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficient in A2 Safety
  • Proficient in VFL Training
  • Proficient in Condition Monitoring Training
  • Proficient in Quality Control & Assurance (ISO9001) Training
  • Advanced knowledge of all site-specific mechanical equipment
  • Must demonstrate advanced skills to troubleshoot, repair and maintain mechanical equipment with specific focus on condition monitoring, defect elimination and continuous improvement
  • Proficient English (Speak, Read and Write)
  • Proficient in equipment and machinery specific competence as per the role specific requirements detailed in the skills matrix.
