Our activities include all aspects – exploration; mining; processing and blending; shipping; marketing and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Job Description
As Supervisor Contractor Services you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Performance & Delivery
- Legal Appointment (Regulations 2.9.2):
- Maintain a safe working environment and ensure compliance with the MHSA regulations as a Legal appointment under Mineral Regulations 2.15.1 read with 7(4) of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA)
- SHE Management System:
- Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of the SHE management system implementation.
- Support and facilitate regular SHE reviews and meetings.
- Scheduling and Planning:
- Participate in the development and review of schedules.
- Assist in improving and maintaining a health and safety inspection schedule aligned with risk profiles and delivery requirements.
- Contractor Management:
- Supervise and mentor contractors, foremen, employees, and safety representatives to enhance their skills and competencies.
- Monitor that contractors are suitably qualified and competent to perform duties according to rules, processes, and regulations.
- Ensure compliance with contractual specifications, policies, procedures, and legal requirements, including the MHSA and Mineral Regulations.
- Oversee the contractors' SHE files and compliance.
- Health and Safety Oversight:
- Review the competencies of site personnel regularly to ensure compliance.
- Facilitate risk assessments, incident investigation sessions, and workshops according to defined procedures.
- Perform health and safety audits and inspections, providing advisory authority on findings.
- Monitor that machinery is safely installed, maintained, and repaired during monthly compliance inspections.
- Identify and halt work at places and with machinery that presents critical health and safety issues or dangerous conditions.
- Implement and promote SHE principles to ensure zero harm, prevent risks, and monitor critical controls in the work area.
- Manage safety and health systems by assessing leadership capabilities and fitness for duty, conducting physical safety checks, reporting deficiencies, and facilitating safety audits.
- Support the Safety & Health principles, following operational risk management rules, regulations, procedures, and directions.
- Monitor and maintain housekeeping.
- Incident Management:
- Assist in investigating and closing out accident reports and actions.
- Ensure all contractor incidents are investigated, with lessons learned and preventive measures implemented.
- Communication and Reporting:
- Report on SHE matters and communicate findings to the Site Manager and relevant Section Manager.
- Support and plan the implementation of safety and operational policies and procedures.
- Compliance:
- Ensure that all local compliance requirements are met as a baseline for site performance.
- Follow all relevant Anglo American compliance standards related to Engineering, Mining, Processing, and rehabilitation and ensure team compliance.
- Abide by all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures while acting at the next higher level when required.
This role is in the Engineering (ENG) at a Band 7 level reporting to the Section Engineer General Services.
Qualifications
- Grade 12/N3 Technical
- Relevant Higher National Qualification on a NQF5
- Train the Trainer Certificate
- Anglo A2 Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
- Competent A Certificate
- First Aid Certificate
- Basic Firefighting Certificate
- SA Drivers License Code B
Experience
- 5 years of experience in a mining environment with 6 months experience in Contract/People Management.
- Understand operational processes relevant to the role.
- Have domain-specific knowledge of contractor processes, operating procedures, and equipment capabilities.
- Knowledgeable about risk management techniques and critical controls.
- Familiar with safety, health, and environmental legislative, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
- Understand Contractor Management Policies and Procedures.
- Computer Literacy: Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Possess a comprehensive understanding of project management principles, methodologies, and best practices.
- Have a thorough grasp of auditing principles and practices, including conducting audits effectively.
