Job Description

Our Rehabilitation Department is looking for an experienced rehabilitation technician to join our growing practice! Our rehabilitation technicians perform most of our patient treatments and develop close relationships with clients. An excellent opportunity for a veterinary technician or veterinary assistant with interest in physical rehabilitation. Our wonderful Rehabilitation team is willing to train the right person.

The Rehabilitation Technician is routinely entrusted with patient assessments, procedures, and treatments. The Rehabilitation Technician must be a detail-oriented person who can make good decisions and maintain high standards of patient care. Rehabilitation Technicians need to communicate clearly with the rehabilitation doctors, client services team, and the other rehabilitation staff to ensure that patients receive the care that they need.

Duties include controlling patients using fear free techniques, assisting with rehabilitation therapies (laser, acupuncture, underwater treadmill therapy, therapeutic exercise, etc.), assisting with orthosis development/assessment, scheduling appointments, accurate electronic medical record keeping, filling prescriptions, maintaining inventory, hospital keeping duties, equipment maintenance and other duties as assigned. This position requires the candidate to be able to help lift large disabled dogs, stand for long periods of time and be on the floor with patients.

Qualifications

We’re looking for:

  • Will work with rehab certified DVM and will implement rehab programs prescribed by rehab DVM
  • Carry out therapeutic exercises. Must be able to train and assist patients in performing exercises, monitor for proper technique and for signs of fatigue
  • Perform basic massage techniques
  • Utilize modalities including class IV laser, therapeutic ultrasound, E-stim and underwater treadmill
  • Teach clients how to perform home exercises as part of home exercise program
  • Maintain medical records on rehab appointments
  • Physically demanding position. Must be able to get up and down from floor easily, bend over, lift 40-50 lbs
  • Utilize fear free approaches in patient handling
  • Assist in maintenance of rehab equipment and space
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with DVM about patient progress and any concerns. 
  • Be able to effectively and compassionately communicate with clients.
  • As needed, assist rehab DVM with evaluations, sedated procedures, or orthopedic radiographs.
