Job Description

This position is a technician position within the Information Technology and Automation Solutions (ITAS) department.  Working in a “hands-on” environment, the successful candidate will provide plant wide support and maintenance of ITAS systems at Alcoa’s Warrick Operations plant near Newburgh, Indiana.  This includes systems within both the Information Technology (I.T.) and Process Computer Systems (PCS) areas of the ITAS department.  The primary responsibilities include day-to-day maintenance, support, optimization, and deployment of personal computers, Windows and Unix based servers, along with peripheral and support equipment used in supporting the production and utility processes at Warrick Operations.

 

Working under the standards and guidelines established by the ITAS organization, the principle challenge of this position is to support and maintain computer technology including hardware, software, peripherals, and networking to solve manufacturing problems in a safe, economical, reliable, and timely fashion to help ensure the success of the business.

 

The ITAS department at Warrick Operations is responsible for I.T. servers running business, maintenance, store room, and plant-wide data and document repositories. Also, the ITAS team has responsibility for Process computer systems located in all four (4) of our production departments (Smelting, Ingot, Rolling, and Fab Products), along with our Central Maintenance and Engineering department.  These systems perform Control System, Human Machine Interface (HMI), and Data Collection functions, making use of Windows based personal computers and servers along with Unix based servers and any associated support equipment.

 

Warrick Operations is a 24 by 7 operation.  This role will require the candidate to handle issues outside of normal work hours.

Beyond the primary responsibilities outlined above, this position is also responsible for the following:

· Infrastructure support for the ITAS organization, including, but not limited to:

  • Maintenance of systems in which the ITAS organization is responsible.
  • Supporting I.T. Analysts, PCS Engineers, and occasionally plant area engineers and maintenance technicians with infrastructure issues, upgrades, and system issues.
  • Staging of new or replacement systems
  • PC and Server Lease Management
  • Backup Management for Process Data Servers and PCs within process areas
  • Operating System patching and Anti-Virus definition distribution for process systems
  • Hardware trouble shooting and basic repair
  • Support of I.T. based hardware equipment used in production
  • Maintain ITAS Restore-Flow process for equipment and computer spares
  • Providing support of manufacturing network and domain
  • Support Compliance activities relating to infrastructure
  • Regular monitoring of process servers and support equipment

· Working with Corporate Infrastructure (LMI) and ITAS teams when required to ensure Warrick Operations is aligned with corporate requirements and processes.

· Support with peripheral interfacing with equipment used in production and ITAS environments such as cameras, touch screens, KVMs, stand-alone applications, etc.

Candidate must be a self starter and demonstrate results working in a team-based environment.  Teams refer to not only just within the ITAS organization, but also the engineering, maintenance and production organizations within the plant.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience with computer system support and maintenance.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills, self motivated, bias for action and experimentation, attention to detail, systems thinking and initiative for change are required.
  • Experience working with Windows based computer hardware
  • Experience working with Windows Operating Systems

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting and working with Windows Domain environment
  • Experience with SCADA type Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems
  • Experience with Unix, Linux or other Open Systems
  • Experience working with SQL or similar relational database
