Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Commis I - South Indian to join our culinary team in Mysuru, India. As an entry-level kitchen commis, you will work under the guidance of senior chefs to prepare authentic South Indian cuisine while developing your culinary skills and understanding of traditional cooking techniques. This role offers an excellent opportunity to grow within a professional kitchen environment while contributing to the preparation of high-quality dishes.

  • Prepare and execute South Indian dishes according to established recipes and culinary standards
  • Perform mise en place activities, including washing, peeling, chopping, and organizing ingredients for efficient kitchen operations
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and maintain cleanliness of assigned workstations
  • Assist senior chefs with food preparation, cooking, and plating of South Indian specialties
  • Follow food safety and hygiene protocols to maintain the highest standards of food quality and safety
  • Collaborate with kitchen team members to ensure smooth workflow and timely service delivery
  • Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure consistency and quality of prepared dishes
  • Receive feedback from senior chefs and continuously improve culinary techniques and efficiency
  • Support inventory management by reporting on ingredient usage and availability
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment at all times

Qualifications

  • Foundational knowledge of South Indian cooking techniques and traditional methods
  • Understanding of South Indian spices, ingredients, and flavor profiles
  • Basic knife skills and food preparation techniques
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards in commercial kitchen environments
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen setting
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively within a kitchen brigade
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights
  • Attention to detail in food preparation and presentation
  • Preferred: Previous culinary training or entry-level kitchen experience
  • Preferred: Familiarity with additional Indian regional cuisines
  • Preferred: Basic English communication skills for effective team collaboration
