Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on Meetings & Events Supervisor to join our team at Mercure Brisbane Spring Hill. Following the recent refurbishment of our event spaces, this is an exciting opportunity to help bring our new venues to life. In this role, you will oversee the on-the-ground execution of corporate meetings, conferences, and events, working closely with our banquets, kitchen, and front office teams to ensure every function runs smoothly from setup through to pack-down. The ideal candidate will bring strong organisational skills, a calm head under pressure, and a genuine passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences.
- Oversee the setup, execution, and pack-down of meetings, conferences, and events across our newly refurbished event spaces
- Liaise directly with clients and event organisers on-site to confirm requirements, run sheets, and any last-minute changes
- Review and action Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and function sheets to ensure accurate, on-time delivery
- Coordinate with internal departments - kitchen, banquets, housekeeping, AV/IT, and front office - to ensure all event requirements are met
- Supervise and lead event and banquet staff during functions, maintaining high standards of service and presentation
- Ensure function rooms, furniture, and AV/technical equipment are correctly set up and tested ahead of each event
- Conduct pre-event briefings and post-event debriefs with staff to drive continuous improvement
- Monitor event flow throughout functions and proactively resolve issues to maintain guest satisfaction
- Manage on-the-day staffing and consumables to ensure cost-effective delivery
- Maintain accurate records of event details, staffing rosters, and equipment/stock usage
- Assist in training, coaching, and mentoring event staff and casuals
Qualifications
- 2-3 years of experience in event operations, banquets, conference & events, or hotel food & beverage supervision
- Experience leading or supervising a team in a fast-paced hospitality or events environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple events and priorities simultaneously
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a professional and confident manner when liaising with clients and colleagues
- Solid understanding of event logistics, room setups, and F&B service standards
- Cost-conscious approach to staffing, stock, and resource use during events
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across departments and with diverse stakeholders
- High attention to detail and a commitment to consistently high service standards
- Strong problem-solving skills and the flexibility to adapt quickly to changing event requirements on the day
- RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) certification, or willingness to obtain
- Preferred: Knowledge of AV/technical equipment setup and troubleshooting
