Job Description
We invite you to join the world of luxury hospitality at Fairmont Assistant Director, Housekeeping. The Assistant Director, Housekeeping reports to the Executive Housekeeper and supports the overall operation of the Housekeeping and Laundry Departments at Fairmont Southampton. This role plays a key part in maintaining the impeccable cleanliness, maintenance, and presentation of all guest rooms, suites, public spaces, corridors, and back-of-house areas.
The Assistant Housekeeper contributes to delivering a consistently luxurious guest experience by supporting team leadership, service excellence, productivity, safety, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Housekeeping Operations & Service Excellence
Assist in overseeing the daily cleaning and maintenance of guest rooms, public areas, corridors, offices, back-of-house spaces, and laundry operations (in-house laundry facility and any contracted laundry services).
Help ensure all areas and laundry processes consistently meet or exceed Fairmont luxury brand standards.
Support the implementation and enforcement of cleaning and laundry procedures, hygiene protocols, and quality control measures.
Conduct regular inspections of rooms, public areas, and laundry facilities to maintain standards of excellence.
Leadership, Team Management & Training
Support the leadership, mentoring, and training of the housekeeping team, including supervisors, room attendants, public area attendants, and laundry staff.
Assist with workforce planning, scheduling, onboarding, and performance management for housekeeping and laundry teams.
Help foster a positive, inclusive, and professional work environment focused on teamwork and accountability.
Support the delivery of ongoing training initiatives to strengthen skills, service consistency, safety awareness, and proper handling of linens and laundry equipment.
Financial & Resource Management
Assist with departmental budget tracking, labor planning, cost control, and purchasing of supplies for housekeeping and laundry operations.
Help maintain accurate inventory of linens, amenities, cleaning supplies, and laundry consumables; support tracking of linen lifecycle and replacement needs.
Contribute to optimizing operational efficiency of housekeeping and laundry processes while ensuring adherence to Accor quality standards.
Identify and suggest opportunities for cost savings, sustainability improvements, and efficiencies in linen usage and laundry practices.
Guest Experience & Service Recovery
Respond promptly and professionally to guest concerns, supporting effective service recovery and guest satisfaction.
Ensure guest rooms, public spaces, and laundry-related guest requests (e.g., same-day pressing, specialty laundering) are fully prepared to support exceptional guest experiences.
Collaborate closely with Front Office, Engineering, and Guest Services to support seamless operations and timely delivery of laundry services.
Standards Compliance, Safety & Sustainability
Support compliance with all local health and safety regulations, Accor brand policies, and industry standards for laundry operations (chemical handling, machinery safety, and infection control).
Champion environmental sustainability initiatives, including waste reduction, chemical management, water and energy efficiency in laundry processes.
Assist in maintaining laundry equipment, tools, and systems to ensure proper functionality, safety, and adherence to preventative maintenance schedules.
Cross-Department Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Represent housekeeping and laundry operations at operational meetings as required and contribute ideas for continuous improvement.
Partner with department heads and the Rooms Division leadership team to enhance the guest journey, including supporting efficient turnaround times for linen and laundry services.
Stay current with industry trends, luxury service innovations, and best practices in housekeeping and laundry operations.
Qualifications
Experience
3+ years of progressive housekeeping experience, preferably within a luxury hotel or resort
Proven ability to support and supervise teams in a high-volume operation
Education
Diploma or certification in Hospitality Management or a related field preferred
Additional training in housekeeping operations or hotel management is an asset
Competencies, Knowledge & Skills
Strong knowledge of housekeeping operations, hygiene standards, equipment, and cleaning technologies
Solid leadership support, coaching, and organizational skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Good financial awareness with experience supporting budgets and inventories
Ability to remain calm, composed, and solution-focused under pressure
