Job Description
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
The Pool Technician is responsible for the comprehensive operation, maintenance, and management of all swimming pool systems and facilities to the highest professional standards. Key responsibilities include:
- Demonstrate thorough expertise in swimming pool operation principles, water treatment, filtration, circulation, and chemical dosing systems, applying this knowledge consistently in practice
- Operate, monitor, and maintain all pool equipment, including pumps, filters, heaters, dosing systems, and circulation systems to ensure optimal performance
- Conduct systematic inspections and troubleshooting of pool systems and equipment to guarantee safe and efficient operation at all times
- Perform rigorous water testing using designated equipment and maintain precise chemical balance, including chlorine, pH, and alkalinity levels in accordance with regulatory standards
- Maintain all pool equipment, tools, and testing devices in a clean, safe, and fully operational condition
- Ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout swimming pools, pool decks, drains, plant rooms, and surrounding areas
- Handle, store, and utilise pool chemicals safely and responsibly in full compliance with hotel procedures, manufacturer specifications, and health and safety legislation
- Execute major and minor maintenance requests with precision, completing all documentation and returning job sheets to the Engineering Office promptly
- Support the Engineering team in maintaining all swimming pool facilities to ensure continuous operational excellence and adherence to hotel standards
- Address pool-related guest complaints, safety concerns, and operational issues with immediate attention and appropriate corrective action
- Participate actively in new pool equipment installations, upgrades, and improvement projects as assigned
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of water testing, chemical usage, equipment inspections, maintenance activities, and corrective measures
- Ensure full compliance with hotel policies, OSM requirements, and all applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Report equipment defects, abnormal water readings, leaks, and operational concerns to the Engineering Supervisor without delay
- Complete personal daily job records with accuracy and maintain them ready for inspection
- Undertake cross-training in other Engineering disciplines as directed
- Execute any additional duties and responsibilities as reasonably assigned
**Planning and Organisation**
- Demonstrate exemplary teamwork and cooperation during all pool maintenance, inspection, and repair activities
- Establish and maintain a professional, safe, and organised working environment within the team
- Identify and recommend improvements to methods, systems, and procedures to enhance efficiency, water quality, safety, and guest satisfaction
- Mentor and instruct team members by sharing relevant technical knowledge and expertise
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all hotel facilities and activities relevant to Engineering and pool operations
- Uphold professional grooming and appearance standards at all times
- Attend all scheduled training programmes and professional development sessions
- Demonstrate full cooperation and respect within the Engineering team and across all departments
- Analyse operational problems systematically and formulate effective action plans to ensure timely completion of work to the highest quality standards
**Operations**
- Execute all assigned pool maintenance and operational tasks independently to the highest professional standards
- Respond immediately to all issues and concerns relating to pool equipment, water quality, hygiene, and safety
- Maintain appropriate stock levels of pool chemicals, testing materials, cleaning equipment, tools, and spare parts, reporting replenishment requirements promptly
- Adhere strictly to the daily task list and ensure completion of all assigned pool maintenance activities within required timeframes
- Conduct regular and thorough inspections of pool areas and equipment, identifying any additional maintenance, cleaning, or safety requirements
- Assess and address all guest safety, pool facility, and operational requirements proactively
- Maintain meticulous records of all water testing, chemical usage, equipment inspections, maintenance activities, and corrective actions
- Ensure all pool operations comply fully with hotel policies, OSM requirements, and applicable health, safety, and environmental standards
Qualifications
- 1 to 2 years' experience operating and maintaining swimming pool systems in a 5-star hotel or similar hospitality environment
- Proven knowledge of pool water treatment, filtration, circulation, and chemical dosing systems
- Demonstrated understanding of pool water quality, chemical balance, and health, safety, and environmental compliance requirements
- Ability to conduct systematic testing of pool water and equipment, maintaining accurate records of results
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve pool equipment and water-quality issues
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively across Engineering and other departments
- Familiarity with Operational Standards Manual (OSM) requirements and industry best practices
