The position is based in Accor's flagship Canberra hotel, Novotel Canberra, conveniently based in the city centre opposite the light rail. We are a 286-room hotel with 8 conferencing and event facilities hosting all events from Corporate groups to sports teams.

Job Description

We’re looking for a professional and customer-focused Assistant Restaurant & Bar Manager to join our team at Novotel Canberra! In this hands-on leadership role, you’ll support the Food & Beverage Manager in running daily operations, delivering outstanding service, and maintaining high standards across the venue.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Help manage the day-to-day operations of the restaurant and bar
  • Support and guide the team through training and supervision
  • Assist with rostering and shift scheduling
  • Contribute to menu planning and pricing
  • Monitor and uphold quality standards in food and beverage service
  • Support budgeting and cost control efforts
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hospitality standards
  • Oversee inventory and stock control
  • Manage cash handling and reconcile daily sales
  • Respond to customer enquiries and feedback professionally
  • Maintain a clean, welcoming environment for guests

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years’ experience in restaurant or bar management
  • Proven leadership and team supervision in hospitality
  • Passion for delivering exceptional customer service
  • Skilled in staff training and development
  • Confident using POS systems and inventory software
  • Solid understanding of food & beverage operations, including menu planning and wine pairing
  • Knowledge of Australian health & safety regulations
  • Experience with budgeting and cost control
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays
  • Hospitality Management qualification (preferred)
  • Current RSA certification
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
