Job Description
The Toxin Innovation Group is seeking a highly motivated Scientist I to contribute to the design, execution, and communication of novel research within a highly collaborative neurotoxin discovery and innovation program. The successful candidate will work on a variety of cell-based assays to evaluate protein-based therapeutics and contribute to their pharmacological characterization. Expertise in maintaining induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) cultures and executing complex cell-based assays is required. While taking personal responsibility for the success of assigned tasks and projects, the successful candidate will collaborate extensively with other scientists.
This position requires work with select agents and toxins (i.e., Biosafety Level 2 laboratories). Access to and use of select agents is regulated by federal policies; therefore, the candidate must conduct all work activities in compliance with AbbVie internal requirements and applicable regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities:
Culture cells in a sterile environment, including the expansion, differentiation, and maturation of human iPSC-derived neurons
Independently design and execute in vitro pharmacological studies; implement or innovate new experimental protocols as needed
Perform in-depth data analysis, draw conclusions, and present findings to multidisciplinary teams
Demonstrate critical thinking to troubleshoot and provide creative solutions to experimental challenges
Collaborate with cross-functional team members to achieve organizational goals, ensuring excellence in execution and effective workload prioritization
Qualifications
JOB QUALIFICATIONS (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS):
Highly motivated, hands-on experimentalist who thrives in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment
Demonstrates flexibility and a commitment to scientific excellence
Possesses strong interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as creative thinking ability
Able to perform experiments independently and work effectively in a team environment
Interprets results and draws conclusions from multi-step experiments; notes significant deviations, uses scientific literature to suggest, design, and pursue relevant experiments
Demonstrates meticulous attention to detail and diligence in record keeping
Education and Experience
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a biological science field with 5 years of experience in an academic or industry laboratory setting
Expertise in aseptic techniques, including maintaining iPSC cell cultures is required
Experience in cell transfection/transduction is preferred
Expertise in executing enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), complex cell-based assays, and western blotting is required
Experience with immunohistochemistry, microscopy techniques, and/or flow cytometry is preferred
Computer skills: working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required
Knowledge of graphing software (e.g., GraphPad Prism) and a basic understanding of statistical analyses are preferred
Strong writing and communication skills

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
