Job Description

The Senior Specialist, Security Projects is responsible for managing, coordinating, and delivering physical security projects and ongoing security equipment programs across assigned sites and campuses. This role provides hands‑on project management for security systems and equipment, maintains strong customer service relationships with site stakeholders, and serves as a key liaison between Global Security, Facilities, vendors, and regulatory partners. The role ensures security systems are designed, installed, tested, documented, governed, and maintained in alignment with AbbVie standards, compliance requirements, and approved budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain strong working knowledge of physical security technologies and infrastructure, including access control, CCTV/video management, alarms, and supporting systems.
  • Lead security projects end-to-end using project management best practices, including scope definition, gap analysis, risk/issue management, dependencies, and funding considerations.
  • Assess existing system performance and field conditions (e.g., camera coverage, equipment health, lifecycle status) to inform prioritization, replacement planning, and program roadmaps.
  • Plan and coordinate installations, expansions, and technology improvements to ensure designs, builds, testing, and documentation align to AbbVie standards and site requirements.
  • Coordinate compliance-related testing and validation activities (including DEA testing) with regulators, internal partners and vendors to ensure audit-ready results.
  • Manage vendor engagement by coordinating proposals, overseeing installation and maintenance work, and verifying deliverables meet AbbVie standards, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Develop and execute project work plans, secure authorized resources, drive timely decisions and approvals, and capture lessons learned through project closeout.
  • Track and govern security assets through installation and transition to operations, ensuring systems are documented, accounted for, and appropriately handed off for ongoing support.
  • Monitor and manage security equipment budgets, including maintenance/repair spend, service contracts, capital forecasts, and long-range planning (LRP) estimates and justifications.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to improve system effectiveness, service delivery, and operational efficiency; stay current on relevant technology advancements and provide SME support to Global Security initiatives as needed. 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 5+ years project management or strategy experience required.
  • PMP Certification preferred
  • This position must be capable of working with little or no supervision.
  • The position must be capable of building and sustaining relationships both internally and externally.
  • Must be capable of communicating effectively through written and verbal means.
  • Position must be capable of learning and understanding basic and complex technologies including but not limited to: security system hardware devices, low voltage electrical connections and communications devices, IP and network based enterprise applications, various CCTV technologies, and security software programs.
  • This person must be able to set a vision and course of action to accomplish the long range goals of the department.
