Job Description

The Associate Director, Immunology Pipeline Commercialization & Strategy (PCS) Analytics & Performance Excellence (APEX) is a strategic and critical role in the APEX Immunology organization. This individual serves as a trusted partner to internal stakeholders, translating market insights into actionable recommendations that drive informed strategic decision-making across the Immunology pipeline. This individual will lead Global Marketing Analytics and Business Insights from planning and execution through communication of results, ensuring alignment with overarching business objectives and pipeline strategies.

The Associate Director will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Business Insights function, long range planning forecasting, vendor management, analytical problem-solving, shaping conclusions and recommendations, presenting interim and final results, and communicating all project progress/initiatives to Pipeline Commercialization Strategy stakeholders and cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Serve as the APEX analytics lead supporting Global Immunology Pipeline Assets, covering multiple disease states and assets across Gastroenterology, Dermatology, Rheumatology and emerging therapeutic areas in Immunology.
  • Inform the financial planning process & support forecasting.
  • Become a trusted partner to Brand Leadership, guiding brand strategy and advising on key initiatives based on knowledge of the business and market through data and analytics capabilities.
  • Enable and demonstrate leadership on the cross-functional business for pipeline assets and/or indications, to make better and more rapid business decisions by framing & prioritizing critical brand questions.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with APEX cross-functional team, US and Global Key Affiliate contacts to co-create and execute plans, eliminate redundancies and ensure consistency of our market understanding.
  • Proactively identify analytics opportunities to ensure that decision-making is based on the most current, objective and comprehensive insights.
  • Incorporate commercial competitive intelligence to help AbbVie anticipate competitor strategies and achieve market leadership.
  • Lead contract support, and external suppliers to increase and enhance the use of advanced modeling and analytic methods and produce results that fully leverage available data and analytics
  • Provide insights on future market evolution over the next 5, 10, 20 years to guide PCS teams in the development of successful clinical programs and launch strategies for multiple indications. 
  • Lead and participate in initiatives to improve the APEX data and analytics capabilities.
  • Ensure all APEX activities are conducted on time, within budget, and in accordance with financial and ethical compliance guidelines.
  • Maintain organizational knowledge on all insights and performance data generated relative to the therapeutic area supported; including market and competitive trends, health care environmental influences and investment performance against various channels.  Possess a strong understanding of industry secondary data and syndicated sources and their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Possess a curiosity and openness to new insight methodologies and a drive to expand the toolkit to better serve the business.

Qualifications

  • BA or BS degree required. Advanced degree (e.g. MBA, MA or MS) preferred.  Degree concentration in marketing research, marketing or social sciences. Statistical knowledge is a must.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience (or 8 years if have PhD or Masters) in a marketing analytics function or relevant experience in quantitative analysis of sales, forecasting and marketing information is required, including use of this information in the development of business plans and strategies.
  • Immunology experience is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of key data sources and analytics approaches to gaining insights at the global and country level.
  • Experience developing and executing global analytics and research plans.
  • Experience analyzing and drawing insights from quantitative and secondary data sets.
  • Excellent strategic thinking and thought leadership with strong story telling capabilities.
  • Experience influencing cross-functional, global and affiliate teams.
  • Strong analytical reasoning abilities, intellectual curiosity, strong business acumen, and creativity in problem solving. Experience with current methods Analytics/Machine Learning.
  • Advanced experience with 3rd party pharmaceutical data sources like IQVIA/SHA Sales Data (APLD, DDD, Xponent, NSP, NPA), and Specialty pharmacy data.
  • Ability to interact effectively with/present to (verbally and in writing) all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to be agile & nimble to changing business conditions, strong collaboration and teamwork across functional groups to contribute to a productive work culture.  Lead strategically and create trust and respect within the department.
