Purpose
The Associate Director, Derm (Rinvoq Atopic Dermatitis) Business Human Resources (BHR) is a trusted partner to the US Immunology organization, helping to shape our culture, support our business strategies and finding and developing the talent necessary to make a remarkable impact on AbbVie and patients around the world. This role reports to the Senior BHR Director, Immunology.
This role partners closely with the Dermatology Rinvoq Atopic Dermatitis team (total headcount: 271; 2025 Derm Plan: $1 Bn) to develop and implement people strategies and tactics that support the business plans and the achievement of both short-term and long-term strategic objectives. Our therapeutic goal is to eliminate skin lesions and itching, allowing patients to aspire to a symptom-free life.
This position will follow a hybrid schedule of Tuesday-Thursday onsite from our Mettawa, IL office.
The role partners with business leaders in an assigned function to Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary strategic partner to the Derm AD Vice President and their leadership teams in developing and implementing HR strategies to meet organizational and business needs.
- Coach, consult, and influence the business leaders regarding leadership development, succession planning, and talent management. Engage and Influence business leaders though strong relationship-building skills and strategic insights.
- Develop and implement strategies to attract, develop and retain talent that meets current and future business needs. This includes identifying and cultivating new capabilities required for future success. Lead talent development and succession planning efforts.
- Ensure the effective delivery of all HR programs and service, and be responsible for HR results in the business, including client satisfaction, HR effectiveness, and associated financial results.
- Lead and advance HR priorities in the Immunology organization by enhancing talent, cultivating a strong culture, and strengthening people leadership capabilities to achieve business objectives.
- Establish, build, and maintain strong relationships with key HR partners from all Centers of Excellence and Service Centers to ensure HR elements are successfully coordinated to meet business needs; include relationship management, leadership, HR roles & responsibilities, and service delivery commitments.
- Provides consultation on and leads organization design and effectiveness / structure issues to ensure optimal performance.
- Drive people manager development to create clarity and consistency of expectations, accountability, and enriched manager/employee experiences. Partner with people leaders to shape a culture of high employee engagement, high performance, diversity and inclusion.
- Facilitate, implement, and model change. Develop and deliver effective communication strategies that align with organizational priorities and support business objectives.
- Champion AbbVie Ways We Work with the Business by modeling, educating, and coaching on these behaviors.
- Prioritize critical projects based on business needs and available resources
- Identify trends and new approaches to business processes that should be both incremental and ahead of the curve.
- Develop proposals and recommendations to resolve strategically important issues with strategic approach to problem-solving on HR issues (enterprise mindset, connecting the dots, thinking ahead)
- Leads large scale, strategic projects and initiative with multi-year impact, capable of creating transformational change in a matrix environment
Qualifications
Education and Experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree Required. Master’s Degree Preferred.
- 8+ years relevant experience required. Experience supporting a global business and partnering with international based business leaders and HR colleagues.
- Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting the business.
- Project management or business experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of organizational development activity preferred.
- Significant breadth of understanding of functional HR roles and responsibilities and impact on the business.
- Re-organizational experience strongly preferred.
- Experience creating structural hierarchy strongly preferred.
- Open to future global assignments and positions outside of the U.S.
- Significant depth of knowledge of critical success factors and challenges for a major business segment.
- Travel: Yes, 20-25% of the Time
