Job Description

Mechanical Engineer – Exciting Opportunity

We’re looking for a skilled Mechanical Engineer to develop and deliver engineering concepts for nuclear, civil, and marine projects. If you’re passionate about producing high-quality designs, collaborating with teams, and ensuring safety and compliance, this role is perfect for you! This would be an embedded role in support of a major Defence Client on a large infrastructure project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 🛠️ Develop Engineering Concepts – Create and deliver engineering solutions that meet project objectives in scope, quality, schedule, and cost.
  • 📑 Documentation – Produce design reports and technical documentation within set timeframes and standards.
  • 🤝 Team Collaboration – Work closely with the project team to ensure smooth project implementation.
  • Compliance – Follow the Client’s Business Management System and ensure all quality and technical standards are met.
  • ⚠️ Safety First – Maintain awareness of hazards and ensure a safe working environment.
  • ⚙️ Project Work – Contribute to nuclear, civil, and marine projects with dedicated work packages.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years design engineering experience in a highly regulated area.
  • Experience in designing mechanical and nuclear process/plant systems (e.g., fresh water, demineralised water, radioactive effluent processing).
  • Working level experience of the European standards is desirable, for example Eurocode 3.
  • Strong awareness of the functional safety implications of process/plant design and safety systems.
  • Proficiency in hand calculations, AutoCAD, and fabrication drawing standards (BS8888).
  • Proficiency in Mathcad, AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor (or equivalent), and MS Office.
  • An appreciation for the engineering design cycle from Concept through to Manufacture.
  • Experience in other safety-critical plant/process designs will also be considered.

Qualifications

What would your experience look like?

  • 🏗️ 3+ years of design engineering experience in a highly regulated industry.
  • ⚙️ Expertise in designing mechanical and nuclear process/plant systems, such as fresh water, demineralised water, and radioactive effluent processing.
  • 📜 Experience with European standards (e.g., Eurocode 3) is highly desirable.
  • 🚨 Strong understanding of the functional safety requirements of process/plant design and safety systems.
  • ✍️ Proficient in hand calculations, AutoCAD, and fabrication drawing standards (BS8888).
  • 💻 Skilled in Mathcad, AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor (or similar), and MS Office.
  • 🔄 Familiarity with the engineering design cycle, from concept through to manufacture.
  • ✅ Experience in other safety-critical plant/process designs is an added advantage.
  • 🎓 Minimum 2:1 BEng in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent). A Master’s degree is highly desirable.

  • ⚙️ Nuclear or Marine System Knowledge – Completion of a Nuclear Introductory Course or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • SC Clearance required to commence role
  • Hybrid working with 2-3 days in a Glasgow office
