Job Description
As a Performance Modelling Engineer, you will join our team in Derby to support our activities within the Aerospace sector.
You will be working on advanced gas turbine engine programmes, focusing on the performance modelling and simulation of propulsion systems under both steady-state and transient conditions. This role sits within a highly specialised engineering environment, contributing to the development and optimisation of next-generation aero engines.
- Location: Derby
- On Site: 2-3 days per week
- Clearance: Eligibility for UK Security Clearance required
- Experience Level: Junior
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and run performance models of gas turbine engines using MATLAB/Simulink
- Analyse engine behaviour under steady-state and transient operating conditions
- Support cycle analysis, performance prediction, and engine optimisation activities
- Work closely with systems, controls, and thermal engineers to integrate models
- Validate models against test data and support performance investigations
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Strong experience with MATLAB/Simulink for modelling and simulation
- Background in gas turbine performance or propulsion systems engineering
- Experience in steady-state and transient engine modelling
- Solid understanding of thermodynamics and gas turbine cycle analysis
- Experience working on complex aerospace or safety-critical systems
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
- Postgraduate study or specialisation in propulsion, gas turbines, or thermal power system
- Academic or industry experience focused on engine performance, cycle modelling, or propulsion analysis
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with gas turbine performance tools (e.g. NPSS or similar)
- Previous work on aero engine development programmes
- Understanding of engine control interaction during transient events (e.g. acceleration, deceleration)
- Exposure to model validation using engine test data
