Job Description
The Opportunity
AECOM is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our Transportation team in Auckland.
This is an opportunity to take a leading role in the design and delivery of roads, highways and civil infrastructure projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across New Zealand and Australia.
You'll bring your technical expertise, project delivery capability and collaborative mindset to projects ranging from transport corridors and road safety improvements to utilities and broader civil infrastructure projects.
Working alongside industry-leading specialists, you'll help guide projects from concept through detailed design and construction, while building strong client relationships and supporting the development of emerging engineers.
How you'll add impact
- Lead the design and delivery of roads, highways, signage and line marking, roadside safety barriers, utilities and general civil infrastructure projects.
- Provide technical leadership across project teams, ensuring projects are delivered to agreed quality, programme and budget requirements.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, efficient and innovative engineering solutions.
- Support projects through all phases of delivery, from planning and concept design through to construction support.
- Manage project tasks, resources and client expectations to achieve successful project outcomes.
- Review design outputs, technical reports and engineering deliverables to ensure quality and compliance.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders and project partners.
- Mentor and support developing engineers, sharing knowledge and technical expertise across the team.
- Contribute to proposals, project opportunities and the continued growth of our transportation business.
- Champion a culture of technical excellence, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
What you’ll bring
We're looking for an experienced Civil Engineer who combines strong technical capability with project delivery experience and a passion for solving complex infrastructure challenges.
To be considered for this role you must have:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or a related discipline within a tertiary institute.
- 6+ years' professional experience in transportation, roads, highways or civil infrastructure projects in New Zealand or Australia.
- Experience in general civil engineering design and project delivery.
- Strong understanding of road and highway design principles.
- Familiarity with relevant New Zealand standards, Austroads guidelines and transportation design practices.
- Experience managing project tasks, delivering technical outcomes and working within multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience designing signage/linemarking/safety barriers/highways/utilities/other civil infrastructure.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience using industry-standard design software such as Civil 3D, 12d, OpenRoads or AutoCAD.
- A proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach.
The following, though not essential, would be highly advantageous:
- Chartered status or membership of a relevant professional body.
- Experience delivering for Auckland Transport/Auckland Council/Waka Kotahi NZTA.
- Road safety experience.
- Utilities and broader civil infrastructure experience.
- MSQA or CPS monitoring and inspection experience for civil projects.
- Experience contributing to project bids, proposals and client development activities.
