Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Electrical Department Manager to lead and grow our Electrical Engineering team in the Kitchener/London region. This is a visible leadership role for a licensed electrical engineer who wants to build a stronger team, guide high-quality delivery, and shape the next stage of AECOM's electrical practice in Southwestern Ontario. This position is to fill an existing position within the team.

The successful candidate will bring technical credibility, people leadership, client focus, and practice-building experience. You will lead multidisciplinary electrical delivery across buildings and infrastructure markets while connecting with AECOM’s broader national and global technical network.

Once You Are Here:

Your role will combine people leadership, technical oversight, client engagement, and practice growth. You will:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop electrical engineers, designers, and technical staff while fostering a positive, accountable, and growth-oriented team culture.
  • Set direction for staffing, workload planning, technical capability, quality, and succession readiness.
  • Serve as a senior technical leader on selected projects, providing design guidance, engineering judgment, quality review, and practical problem-solving.
  • Guide electrical design delivery across multiple sectors, including buildings, institutions, commercial and industrial facilities, water and wastewater, transportation, sustainability, and related infrastructure markets.
  • Oversee electrical systems design, including medium-voltage and low-voltage power distribution, lighting, life safety, communications, controls, and related building and infrastructure systems.
  • Represent Kitchener/London within the national electrical practice, collaborating with other office electrical managers to build an integrated national practice.
  • Build trusted client relationships, support proposals and pursuits, and help grow the regional electrical practice.
  • Strengthen project outcomes through clear scope definition, resource planning, technical coordination, schedule awareness, quality management, and early risk identification.
  • Champion sustainable, energy-efficient, innovative, and future-ready design solutions.
  • Represent AECOM with professionalism and confidence in front of clients, internal leaders, project teams, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess, at a minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering + eight (8) years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Licensed Professional Engineer with Professional Engineers Ontario.
  • Demonstrated electrical design and delivery experience in consulting, infrastructure, design, or multidisciplinary project environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, coordination, and decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to mentor engineers, designers, and technical staff.
  • Holding or the ability to obtain minimum Reliability Level security clearance.

Preferred Requirements:

The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of technical depth, leadership presence, client service, and practice-building experience. Preferred qualifications include:

  • 20+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience in consulting, design, or design-build environments.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive relevant electrical engineering experience.
  • Experience managing an Electrical Engineering department, discipline group, project team, or technical delivery team.
  • Strong client-facing, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience with proposals, business development, strategic pursuits, and market growth.
  • Technical expertise in medium-voltage and low-voltage power systems and related building and infrastructure electrical systems, lighting, life safety, communications, and control systems.
  • Experience across market sectors such as industrial and commercial buildings, transportation, water/wastewater, institutional, or sustainable infrastructure.
  • Strong record of solving complex engineering problems with sound judgment and client-focused solutions.
  • Ability to lead effectively in a matrixed organization with local, regional, national, and global teams.
  • Holding or the ability to obtain Secret Level security clearance.

It would be a bonus if you have:

  • Experience growing or transforming an engineering team.
  • Experience leading technical delivery across multiple offices, regions, or business lines.
  • Experience serving as Engineer of Record, senior technical reviewer, discipline lead, or trusted technical advisor on complex projects.
  • Experience with high-profile public-sector, transportation, water, institutional, healthcare, laboratory, industrial, mission-critical, or architecturally significant projects.
  • Experience developing technical standards, design tools, delivery procedures, training material, or quality improvement initiatives.
  • Interest in advancing digital delivery, automation, energy transition, decarbonization, and next-generation electrical design solutions.
