Job Description

We are seeking a motivated Engineer with interest or initial experience in Tunnel Ventilation Systems (TVS) and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

Key Responsibilities 

  • Assist in the development of ventilation models and engineering assessments under the supervision of senior engineers.
  • Assist in preparing engineering calculations, ventilation system layouts, mechanical design drawings, equipment sizing, and technical specifications.
  • Support the development and review of simulation models for tunnel ventilation and fire scenarios.
  • Assist in developing 1D ventilation simulations (SES, IDA Tunnel) and 3D fire and smoke modelling analyses using FDS/PyroSim. Support occupant egress assessments using Pathfinder.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to support integrated tunnel and station designs.
  • Ensure designs and calculations comply with project requirements, applicable codes, and engineering standards.
  • Participate in technical meetings, workshops, and internal design reviews.
  • Support space proofing activities and equipment access/maintenance studies for TVS components.
  • Contribute to technical reports, presentations, and engineering documentation.

Qualifications

Here’s what we’re looking for: 

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Additional training in tunnel ventilation, fire safety engineering, or CFD simulation is desirable.
  • Suitable for engineers with up to 2 years of experience in a related field. 
  • Strong interest in tunnel ventilation, fire life safety engineering, fluid dynamics, and simulation-based design.
  • Familiarity with SES, IDA Tunnel or equivalent tunnel ventilation simulation software would be beneficial.
  • Familiarity with FDS and/or PyroSim is desirable. Experience with ANSYS Fluent or equivalent CFD software would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with standards such as NFPA 130, PIARC recommendations, EU Directive 2004/54/EC, or other tunnel fire life safety guidelines would be beneficial.
  • Basic knowledge of Python, VBA, or other scripting tools would be advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and basic experience with Revit or CAD.
  • Ability to carefully assess and analyse information with precision.
  • Confidence in presenting ideas and communicating effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Professional proficiency in both English and Spanish.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
