Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, self-driven, highly talented Senior Transportation Planner to join a growing, dynamic, and highly technical team of planners, engineers, and technicians in the Franklin, TN office.  This position requires knowledge of transportation planning, urban land use, and communications.  The successful candidate will also need to be able to market these capabilities to existing and prospective clients as they grow this department.  The position is to manage transportation projects and lead/deliver work tasks for environmental, multimodal, and long-range transportation planning projects and studies for statewide, regional/MPO, local agencies, and transportation authorities. In addition to Tennessee work, this position will support projects in Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina and the rest of the southeast.

Core Responsibilities

  • Execute multiple projects in a technical capacity, which may include transportation, such as bridge rehabilitation/replacements, roadway improvements, managed lanes projects, safety improvements, and transit, and communications projects.
  • Lead in project environmental constraints identification and impact analyses, preparing NEPA technical documents such as community impact assessments, environmental justice and limited English proficiency analysis, parks, and recreational resources analysis (including Section 4(f) evaluations), indirect and cumulative impacts assessments, feasibility studies, public involvement support, other planning and coordination for a wide range of infrastructure projects.
  • Manage the delivery of task orders under TDOT and/or other agency on-call contracts, and other federally funded projects such as city and county agency infrastructure projects through local governments, demonstrating a strong working knowledge of NEPA environmental review processes.
  • Author and manage projects in coordination with multi-disciplinary teams consisting of internal technical staff, as well as subcontractors, in all phases of the execution and delivery of environmental compliance and permitting requirements for a wide range of infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrate an excellent understanding of the project delivery requirements for transportation projects, including Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree in Urban, Regional or Environmental Land Use Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or related field
  • Eight years of related transportation environmental planning or demonstrated equivalency or experience and/or education
  • Experience in project and budget management, and QA/QC practices.
  • Experience with permitting and NEPA.
  • Ability to travel periodically travel to client and project sites anywhere in Tennessee, including overnight stays.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Urban, Regional, or Environmental Land Use Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field
  • ​Ten plus years of experience performing environmental planning and permitting work for Tennessee transportation clients, including local agencies such as cities, counties, and mobility authorities
  • AICP certification
  • Experience with analytical processes and developing deliverables using GIS software
  • Previous project experience with TDOT, TN municipalities, or other state DOT's
  • Experience in research, analytical, and technical written and verbal communication
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams comprised of internal staff and subcontractors
  • Experience working effectively in a team-based, collaborative environment
  • Experience with review and analysis of socioeconomic data, maps, and drawings
