Job Description

AECOM SA (Pty) Ltd invites applications from currently enrolled National Diploma students in Quantity Surveying who are required to complete their P1 and/or P2 practical training as part of their qualification requirements. The intern will be exposed to a live, complex infrastructure project and will be supported by a qualified supervisor throughout the placement.

The intern will be exposed to, and will assist with, the following activities under the supervision of a qualified Quantity Surveyor:

Project Familiarisation

  • Introduction to the project scope, contract documentation, Bills of Quantities, and AECOM's quality management system.

Measurement and Quantification

  • Assisting with the measurement and quantification of civil and structural works in accordance with the Standard System of Measuring Building Work (ASAQS) or relevant infrastructure measurement standards.

Cost Reporting

  • Exposure to cost planning, cost control, and the preparation of cost reports under supervision.

Contract Administration

  • Assisting with contract administration tasks including the processing of payment certificates, variation orders, and contractor claims under the NEC or FIDIC contract framework applicable to the project.

Procurement Support

  • Exposure to procurement documentation, tender adjudication processes, and subcontractor management.

Technical Reporting

  • Assisting with the compilation of QS reports, data capture, and document management.

Health, Safety and Environment

  • Introduction to project-specific health, safety, and environmental requirements.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a National Diploma in Quantity Surveying at a recognised University of Technology. Must require P1 and/or P2 practical training as a formal component of the qualification.
  • Must be in good academic standing. Applicants must submit their most recent academic transcripts with their application.
  • No prior work experience required. Tertiary-level knowledge and coursework is sufficient.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). Exposure to CCS Candy, ASAQS-compliant software, or any quantity surveying measurement software is advantageous.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Must be available for the full duration of the placement (6 or 12 months) as confirmed by the University of Technology.

Additional Information

A monthly stipend will be provided in accordance with the CIDB Standard for Developing Skills Through Infrastructure Contracts (April 2026).
