Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Electrical Project Manager to lead the design and delivery of complex building and infrastructure projects in our Roanoke, VA office. This role blends technical electrical engineering expertise with project and client leadership, overseeing projects from concept through construction while ensuring design excellence, financial performance, and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management & Leadership

  • Lead and manage small to large-scale architectural and engineering projects, serving as the primary point of contact for clients.

  • Develop and execute project management strategies to ensure successful delivery, financial performance, and risk mitigation.

  • Establish and maintain project schedules, staffing plans, and resource allocation aligned with contractual requirements.

  • Provide technical and administrative oversight of multi-disciplinary teams to meet project scope, schedule, and quality objectives.

  • Ensure high-quality project deliverables, documentation, and overall professionalism.

  • Foster strong client relationships and act as a trusted advisor, balancing expectations, scope, and project constraints.

  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies.

  • Support business development efforts, including proposal development, interviews, and market engagement.

Electrical Engineering & Technical Leadership

  • Lead or support the design of electrical power distribution systems, including medium- and low-voltage systems, grounding, and lightning protection.

  • Mentor junior staff, support performance development, and assist in recruitment efforts.

  • Prepare and edit technical specifications for electrical systems and equipment.

  • Interpret client requirements and translate them into code-compliant, innovative design solutions.

  • Oversee development of electrical construction documents

  • Perform power system studies using SKM or similar modeling tools.

  • Conduct site assessments, field investigations, and construction site visits.

  • Perform quality control reviews of electrical designs and mentor engineering staff.

  • Coordinate directly with client subject matter experts (SMEs) for system integration and design alignment.

  • Support construction administration, including shop drawing reviews, RFIs, and site coordination.

  • Develop and review construction cost estimates for electrical scopes.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field and 10 years of relevant experience, including electrical design including 2 years of project management / leadership or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent professional registration.

  • Due to the nature of the role, U.S. Citizenship is required.

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in electrical engineering and project management.

  • Experience with DoD projects and familiarity with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and National Electrical Code (NEC).

  • Expertise in mission critical systems, microgrids, spot networks, and electrical commissioning.

  • Experience with telecommunications systems, including A/V and electronic security design.

  • Proven experience in A/E proposal development and client-facing roles.

  • Strong leadership skills in fast-paced, high-accountability environments.

  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, SKM, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Experience with financial management tools for project tracking and forecasting.

  • LEED AP or sustainable design experience preferred.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
