Job Description
AECOM is seeking a highly experienced Commercial Manager to support major transportation infrastructure programs and pursuits throughout the Central US region. This role will serve as a key commercial leader within AECOM’s Transportation business, partnering closely with project managers, construction managers, operations leadership, and client teams to drive successful project delivery across highway, bridge, transit, and transportation construction programs.
The Commercial Manager will oversee the commercial and contractual performance of complex transportation projects from project initiation through closeout. This individual will play a critical role in contract administration, change management, forecasting, earned value, risk mitigation, cost control, and financial reporting while helping project teams proactively manage project performance and commercial strategy. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader who thrives in fast paced project environments and brings a strong understanding of transportation project delivery, alternative delivery methods, construction operations, and quality management processes associated with transportation design and construction deliverables.
This position offers the opportunity to help shape and support some of the region’s most visible transportation programs while working alongside industry leading technical and program management professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a commercial leader supporting transportation infrastructure and construction projects throughout Colorado and the surrounding region.
- Partner with project managers and operations leadership to oversee project commercial performance including forecasting, earned value management, budgeting, cash flow, cost controls, and financial reporting.
- Provide strategic guidance on contract administration, commercial risk management, and project compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support project quality management initiatives, including coordination of QA/QC processes associated with transportation engineering and design deliverables to help ensure compliance with client requirements and internal standards.
- Collaborate with technical leadership and project teams to support consistent implementation of quality procedures, document controls, and project delivery best practices.
- Lead and support contract negotiations, subcontract administration, and change order development and negotiation with clients, contractors, and consultants.
- Develop and maintain commercial management procedures, reporting tools, and project controls processes to support successful project execution.
- Monitor project financial performance, identify commercial risks and opportunities, and recommend mitigation strategies to improve project outcomes.
- Coordinate with legal, finance, insurance, tax, human resources, procurement, and risk management teams to support project delivery and issue resolution.
- Support development and maintenance of project risk registers and lead commercial risk review discussions with project leadership teams.
- Review and analyze project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and cost reports to identify trends, exposure areas, and recovery opportunities.
- Prepare and present monthly commercial and financial performance reports to transportation leadership and executive management.
- Assist project teams with claims analysis, dispute resolution, subcontractor negotiations, and commercial correspondence documentation.
- Support transportation pursuits and project startup activities including contract reviews, commercial assessments, and project execution planning.
- Mentor and support project teams on commercial awareness, project controls best practices, quality procedures, and contract compliance processes.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary transportation teams delivering highway, bridge, transit, roadway, and transportation construction projects for state and municipal clients including DOT’s and local agencies.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- BA / BS and 10+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 2 years of leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or related 10+ years of relevant commercial management, project controls, construction management, or transportation infrastructure experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- 20+ years of commercial management experience supporting major transportation infrastructure or construction programs.
- Experience supporting transportation projects and regional transportation clients throughout the Central Region
- Demonstrated success managing commercial operations for large, complex transportation construction programs.
- Experience supporting QA/QC procedures for transportation engineering and design deliverables.
- Experience with claims management, dispute resolution, and contract negotiations on infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of earned value management systems, project controls tools, and financial forecasting methodologies.
- Professional certifications such as CCM, PMP, PE, CEP, or equivalent are preferred.
- Experience mentoring project teams and leading commercial best practices initiatives across large organizations.
- Experience supporting large transportation or infrastructure projects with responsibility for contract administration, change management, forecasting, and commercial reporting.
- Experience working with complex project delivery methods including Design-Build, CMGC, or alternative delivery transportation programs.
- Strong understanding of project financial management principles, construction contracts, scheduling concepts, quality management processes, and risk management practices.
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams and executive leadership in fast paced infrastructure environments.
