Job Description
We’re looking for a Principal Civil Geometric Designer to join our Hamilton Transport team and help lead the next evolution of digital transport design delivery across New Zealand.
This is a rare opportunity for a recognized technical leader to combine high-level geometric design expertise with innovation, digital engineering, and emerging AI-enabled delivery practices. You’ll play a key role in defining how transport infrastructure projects are delivered — driving model-based workflows, improving digital capability, and influencing the future of design across AECOM.
Working across major transport and infrastructure programmes, you’ll lead complex geometric design delivery while mentoring teams, shaping standards, and championing smarter, more connected ways of working.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives on technical excellence, enjoys challenging traditional approaches, and is passionate about the future of digital infrastructure delivery.
- Lead geometric design and digital delivery across major transport infrastructure projects
- Drive best practice in model-based design workflows, standards, and digital engineering delivery
- Champion innovation through automation, parametric modelling, and AI-enabled design approaches
- Provide technical leadership in Bentley OpenRoads Designer and modern digital delivery methodologies
- Influence project outcomes through high-quality, efficient, multidisciplinary design solutions
- Mentor and develop engineers and designers across digital capability and technical excellence
- Collaborate with local and global teams, including Enterprise Capabilities, to optimise delivery performance
- Support integrated delivery across highways, transport corridors, urban infrastructure, and complex multidisciplinary projects
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients in digital delivery and transport design
- Help shape the future direction of AECOM’s transport design capability in New Zealand
Qualifications
The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes you could still be a perfect fit for this role. Please apply, all applications will be considered.
- Extensive experience in transport infrastructure design with a strong focus on geometric design and digital delivery
- Advanced expertise in Bentley OpenRoads Designer
- Strong understanding of NZTA and Austroads standards and their practical application
- Experience leading complex, multidisciplinary infrastructure projects
- Passion for digital engineering, innovation, and improving how projects are delivered
- Interest or experience in automation, parametric modelling, and AI-enabled design tools
- Strong communication and leadership capability, with the ability to mentor and influence others
- Ability to lead technical teams while balancing quality, programme, and commercial outcomes
- Experience with 12d Model and/or Civil 3D is advantageous but not essential
- Chartered status (CPEng or equivalent) is desirable but not essential
