Job Description
As a Technical Lead for Substation Projects, you play a key role in the end-to-end development and execution of high-voltage infrastructure projects. You are responsible for coordinating engineering activities across multiple disciplines and ensuring the effective integration of electrical systems, civil interfaces, and grid connection requirements.
You support projects throughout their entire lifecycle—from early concept development and detailed engineering to delivery support—ensuring technical consistency, regulatory compliance, and high-quality execution within the German energy market.
Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, grid operators, clients, and external partners, you help deliver complex power infrastructure solutions. At the same time, you contribute to strengthening technical capabilities within the organization and support the evolution of modern substation and grid integration concepts, particularly in the context of the energy transition.
Responsibilities:
Technical coordination of substation projects:
- Lead the overall technical delivery of high-voltage substation projects across multiple voltage levels
- Ensure alignment between primary systems, secondary systems, and protection concepts
- Coordinate interfaces between electrical engineering, civil works, and grid connection requirements
- Monitor technical execution with respect to quality, schedule, and cost targets
Engineering integration and system design:
- Develop and align technical concepts for high-voltage substations, including layout and system architecture
- Ensure functional integration of protection, control, and automation systems
- Support the development of grid connection and system design concepts
- Maintain technical consistency across all project phases
Regulatory and grid compliance:
- Ensure compliance with German technical standards and applicable engineering regulations
- Support permitting and approval processes with authorities and grid operators
- Ensure alignment with grid code and utility requirements
Project and stakeholder coordination:
- Act as a technical interface between clients, grid operators, internal engineering teams, and contractors
- Translate technical requirements into clear engineering deliverables
- Support technical discussions and decision-making across project stakeholders
Infrastructure development and innovation:
- Contribute to the development of modern substation concepts supporting the energy transition
- Support continuous improvement of engineering capabilities within the organization
- Help shape scalable solutions for future energy infrastructure projects
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification
- Experience in planning and delivery of high-voltage or substation infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of primary, secondary, and protection systems
- Familiarity with German and European technical standards in the power sector
- Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering environments
- Ability to manage complex technical interfaces across project stakeholders
- Strong communication skills in German and English
- Structured, solution-oriented engineering mindset with a holistic system view
