Job Description

AECOM Spain Building Services Engineering team is a highly qualified group of professionals experts in offering the best solutions to international client’s needs all around the world.

Our team, as part of the continued growth of our business, is looking for a Senior Fire & Risk Engineer to support the plan, and who has is looking to further develop their experience in delivering multi-disciplinary projects. These projects span a diverse range of construction sectors including among others, Industrial, Healthcare, Education, Leisure, Aviation, Commercial and Defense.

Working within a dynamic, highly motivated and driven team, you will be part of our project delivery, mentor our junior staff and develop our future engineers. As a Senior Fire & Risk Engineer, you will contribute to the winning, management and delivery of moderate to large scale projects.

This role will define and deliver advanced fire safety solutions across the full lifecycle of buildings and industrial facilities, combining rigorous code compliance with performance-based engineering and deep materials behavior knowledge.

Scope of Responsibilities

The Senior Fire & Risk Engineer will:

• Will evaluate reaction-to-fire and fire resistance of materials and assemblies (heat release rate, smoke/opacity, toxicity, charring/insulation, thermal degradation), interpret and apply test standards (e.g., EN 13501 series, ASTM E84/E119, UL 1709/263), and translate results into conservative, buildable specifications.

• Will lead performance-based designs utilizing computational tools (e.g., CFD for smoke/tenability, structural fire analysis, egress simulation) where prescriptive paths are insufficient.

• Will engineer passive measures including compartmentation strategy, fire-resistance–rated assemblies, firestopping systems, penetrations and joints design, fire doors and dampers, and façade fire safety; will coordinate structural fire protection (e.g., SFRM/intumescent) with elevated-temperature performance objectives.

• Will develop egress strategies and life safety plans with occupant loads, travel distances, exit capacity, and performance-based egress modelling when warranted.

Qualifications

Will hold a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Fire Protection Engineering or a closely related discipline (Mechanical, Chemical, Materials, or Structural with fire specialization).

Will demonstrate proficiency with international and local codes/standards (e.g., NFPA suite, IFC/IBC, EN/BS, FM Global Data Sheets), including performance-based design frameworks and equivalency methodologies.
