Job Description

AECOM’s Rail and Transit Signals group is seeking an experienced Intermediate or Senior Signals Design Engineer to work with the existing Canadian Signals team, working on projects across the country. The position is open for immediate employment in the GTA, ideally based out of AECOM’s Mississauga, Ontario office, with AECOM offering flexible work arrangements for work-life balance. As a signal design team member, the successful applicant will have multiple roles.

This is a newly created role.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Team Management / Leadership:

  • Primary role as a Signals Design engineer.

  • Attend client meetings.

  • Act as the designated signals/systems specialist.

  • Comply with corporate safety, values, and initiatives.

  • General project management duties.

 

Design:

Projects will be for:

  • North American heavy-rail freight and passenger systems to AREMA C&S standards

  • LRT and Subway transit systems

  • Perform design, review, and checking (up to 3rd level) for new and modified vital circuitry and application logic programs for automatic block systems, centralized traffic control, interlockings, and highway grade crossing warning systems.

  • Review own work and work done by others for adherence to applicable standards, rules and regulations, as well as all applicable client standards and signal design policies and procedures.

  • Prepare technical specifications.

  • Perform hands-on design.

  • Perform design, review, and P. Eng. stamping 3rd level.

 

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering + 6 years experience in railway signals design, or equivalent.

  • Professional Engineering License or eligibility

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6+ years experience in software for crossing applications and CTC signals applications

  • 6+ years experience working in AutoCAD and/or Microstation design

  • Project Management experience will be considered an asset.

  • Driving license

  • Available to work weekends and night shifts if required.

  • Ideally 10+ years of experience in railway signals design.

  • Experience with CPKC, CN, Metrolinx, TTC, VIA Rail, AMT, Calgary Transit, Edmonton Transit Service or similar.

  • Understanding of CN (GI’s & SCP’s), CPKC (RP’s) and Metrolinx Signal Design manual, GI’s & SCP’s.

  • Experience with LRT and/or subway signaling.

  • In addition to office-based design, also experience with testing/commissioning, construction, maintenance, and/or operations.

  • In depth knowledge of applicable laws, standards and regulations pertaining to railroad and transit signal systems and highway-rail grade crossing warning systems. Must specifically include knowledge of AREMA C&S Recommended Practices, GCS, GCR, CROR, and industry standards.

  • Experience in grade crossing and vital microprocessor-based interlocking equipment programming.

  • Proficient in highway grade crossing warning design, microprocessor-based constant warning time devices.

  • Proficient in wayside signaling including ABS, CTC and Interlocking, both relay logic and Boolean or ladder logic.

  • Experience writing technical specifications.

  • Experience undertaking design reviews.

  • Competent written and verbal English skills.
