Job Description
In this pivotal Director level leadership role at AECOM, you will provide expertise in Structural Engineering for Transmission and Distribution projects, enhancing our technical reputation in the energy sector. You will have the remit to develop cohesive design solutions and technical frameworks for a diverse range of structural engineering needs within the rapidly evolving energy sector for transmission and distribution projects.
Collaborating with a team of local and global experts, you will deliver innovative design solutions for varied projects that incorporate cutting-edge technology. This fast paced and involving nature of projects will suit a Structural Engineer looking to make a difference across major and complex projects where understanding client needs, balancing engineering concepts, and applying commercial judgement will be important to align with the project economic and design requirements. You will also have scope to mentor, coach, and develop the next generation of structural engineers in the Transmission and Distribution discipline – this can include people leadership responsibilities as the team grows.
You will advocate for local client needs, supported by AECOM's Australian team and technical resources across Australia, New Zealand, and globally. Your role will involve working with remote teams to ensure technical and delivery excellence, applying leading structural solutions to meet project demands.
- Provide technical leadership and solutions for client and project structural engineering queries into energy and power related infrastructure projects being the local ‘go-to’ for technical assurance, project verification and technical ‘sign off’ requirements.
- Support project delivery excellence across technical verification, design governance, risk management, working within project commercial requirements.
- Build client relationships as a trusted advisor including running workshops with client technical teams and external stakeholders and contractors.
- Providing input into business development processes, providing structural engineering related inputs and timeframes into project proposals.
- Contribute technical expertise both throughout the AECOM Australia team, as well as with global subject matter experts.
- Work with the current local team and manager to support technical learning, mentoring and development of others and their technical abilities in the structural discipline.
- Ensure delivery excellence and governance across all structural engineering related components for projects, maintaining AECOM’s high standards of quality, safety, digital innovation and client satisfaction.
- Champion collaboration and operational efficiency by leveraging enterprise workshare, implementing change initiatives, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced technical lead across structural engineering, known for your design rigour across engineering requirements, your problem-solving ability and delivery of complex technical requirements. Experience across energy related projects is required, especially a track record of very diverse project types, site requirements, scale and geographies for the energy sector.

- Recognised for your technical and project engineering expertise, with 15+ years of experience in Structural Engineering across power, civil, pylon, substation or related projects
- Proven ability to manage a variety of projects from concept to delivery, ensuring technical excellence, quality outcomes, and client satisfaction throughout all project stages.
- Registration on the National Engineering Register in Australia (such as RPEV or RPEQ) will be required, ideally supported by a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) designation or equivalent international accreditation.
- Client relationship and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive client relationships as a trusted advisor with internal and client expert technical teams.
- Ability to provide commercial judgement and pragmatism, understanding design and build cost considerations for clients.
- A passion for mentoring and the development of others structural engineering technical abilities, helping the next generation of AECOM engineers to build their careers.
