Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern to join our Buildings + Places team based in Maui, HI, with a substantial portion of work supporting field activities on the island of Maui. This internship offers hands-on exposure to real project sites, allowing you to apply classroom knowledge to active engineering work in one of the most dynamic environments in the Pacific. You will support project development, field data collection, and project coordination while working alongside experienced engineers and construction managers committed to mentorship and technical growth. This role is ideal for students eager to blend analytical design skills with meaningful field experience across diverse building and site development projects.
This position is expected in Spring/Summer 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the construction management team on Maui, including site reconnaissance, project inspections, data collection, condition assessments, and program & project documentation under the guidance of an experienced engineer and/or construction manager.
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and coordinating project activities and timelines.
- Help track project milestones and deliverables.
- Communicate with project stakeholders to gather information and provide updates.
- Contribute to the creation of design documents across various project phases.
- Collect, organize, and analyze engineering data from both field and office-based assignments.
- Utilize engineering software and Microsoft Office tools to support project analyses and deliverables.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to assist with project coordination and execution.
- Help maintain project files, databases, and organizational systems.
- Perform tasks in alignment with agreed schedules and budgets under supervision.
- Contribute to process improvements and identify opportunities for increased efficiency.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and/or other related fields and must have completed at least two years of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with a master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
- As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
- Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Problem-solving mindset and willingness to take initiative.
- Basic understanding of project management principles and methodologies.
- Knowledge of project management best practices and frameworks.
