Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Public Information Officer to join the SR 400 Express Lanes Owner Verification (OV) team in Alpharetta, GA. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a landmark infrastructure initiative—adding two express lanes in each direction along a 16-mile corridor from Abernathy Road in Sandy Springs to north of the Fulton/Forsyth County line. This $4.6 Billion project also includes the construction or replacement of over twenty-five bridges and four Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stations and is managed under GDOT’s first Public-Private Partnership (P3) Concession Transportation Project.

This role is pivotal in crafting and implementing community awareness strategies and liaising with clients, the general public, media outlets, and public officials. The candidate will lead communications efforts, focusing on customer service and addressing public concerns. Responsibilities also include planning and executing public meetings and special events, with potential involvement in business development activities such as marketing initiatives, proposal preparation, and presentations. AECOM is representing the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), overseeing the Developer during the design and construction phase of the SR 400 Express Lanes project through 2031.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement/update the Public Information Communications Plan (PICP) that discloses the specific communications strategies and tactics for the project and the respective roles and responsibilities of GDOT, PMC/PMT, GEC, and the Developer.
  • Create public information materials (fact sheets, FAQs, website content, newsletters) in line with the P3 Division Style Guide.
  • Draft responses to public inquiries.
  • Maintain and update a database of names, addresses, affiliations, phone numbers, and email addresses for all stakeholders and the public to distribute Project updates.
  • Support Stakeholder Outreach meetings, ensuring the Developer provides necessary materials (PowerPoint presentations, handouts, talking points).
  • Coordinate with local governments and stakeholders on project developments.
  • Represent GDOT’s PMT at public events (open houses, stakeholder meetings, groundbreaking ceremonies, ribbon cuttings).
  • Ensure the Developer complies with the PICP and project document obligations, verifying the accuracy and quality of materials before distribution.
  • Audit project web page regularly and update/prepare new project web page content as needed.
  • Oversee the Developer’s public communications submissions.
  • Verify the accuracy of Traffic Impact Alerts in coordination with the PMT Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Lead and obtain GDOT approvals.
  • Participate in PMT internal meetings, providing updates on public involvement activities and receiving direction on PICP submissions.
  • Attend internal public involvement task force meetings and progress meetings, addressing any outstanding items.
  • Ensure the submission and accuracy of the Public Information and Communication Monthly Report.
  • Continue to assist the GDOT and the PMC with an ongoing media relations program designed to build media and public awareness for the Project and encourage public engagement in the process. All media inquiries will be handled by GDOT staff.
  • Prepare and conduct a Communications Engagement Survey (if requested).
  • Implement the P3 Division Style Guide.
  • Manage support staff assisting with project communications.
