Job Description

AECOM is seeking a dynamic Environmental Engineer to support PFAS chemistry consulting services and business development across the US West Region. This consulting position will primarily support PFAS-focused projects and initiatives within our Environment business line, with broad exposure to cross-disciplinary projects in other subjects and business lines.

This position is expected to begin in April 2026.

PFAS TECHNICAL PRACTICE GROUP (TPG)

AECOM encourages knowledge-sharing without geographic constraint through our PFAS Technical Practice Group (TPG) with a current membership of over 1,000 employees in the US, Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East and Africa. The TPG creates easy access to shared information, and the opportunity to lead and learn from this talented bench of new and seasoned PFAS specialists in water treatment and environmental remediation of all media: soil, groundwater, surface water, wastewater, biosolids, and air.

Job Description:
AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented PFAS Environmental Engineer for immediate employment as a hybrid in-office employee in Atlanta, GA. Please note this is an office position and would not involve routine laboratory analysis, though there may be opportunities for onsite field work and laboratory visits. The consultant will support experimental design, conceptual site model development, quality assurance/quality control, data management, data analysis, and various environmental chemistry aspects of investigations and studies for our clients. The candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects across multiple business lines and geographies while developing their technical skills and exploring new interests. This role is integral to the growth of PFAS chemistry consulting services, building expertise in advanced analytical tools for PFAS detection and characterization to address the broad variety of challenges posed by PFAS.


Job responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Provide defensible scientific support for critical project decisions, especially related to PFAS conceptual site models and multivariate data analysis

  • Provide support for primary engineering design elements and evaluation of remedial technologies

  • Serve as technical lead on PFAS forensics projects

  • Contribute to the development of new machine learning, statistical, and digital applications for environmental science and engineering

  • Design and perform statistical tests to support anthropogenic background studies for PFAS and other constituents

  • Engage with commercial laboratories and innovators in PFAS sensing to coordinate and advance solutions in PFAS detection and characterization.

  • Engage with a broad range of practitioners in industry and government to maintain currency in federal and state regulations governing PFAS and other emerging contaminants and their environmental analytical methodologies and data interpretation practices

  • Support data evaluation, including regulatory comparison, and associated reporting for field investigation and remediation reports

  • Aid in the experimental design and data evaluation for forensic fingerprinting, remediation decisions, custom bench-scale studies, and environmental fate and transport studies

  • Support development of project documents including work plans, sampling design, sampling and analysis plans (SAPs), and quality assurance project plans (QAPPs)

  • Solicit analytical laboratory services and evaluate capabilities for project use

  • Coordinate with laboratories and field staff throughout the sampling and analysis process

  • Prepare technical memoranda and white papers to be included in client deliverables

  • Facilitate collaboration within AECOM, across business lines and global geographies, and aid in developing relationships with external partners, including academic and commercial laboratories on a global scale

  • Support of AECOM’s global PFAS technical practitioners and academic or commercial partners in delivering meaningful research to address PFAS fate and transport, treatment, and risk related challenges.

  • Provide global support for PFAS and broader applications for water modeling, including projects in Latin America

  • Identify opportunities for AI and ML enhanced processes for engineering and scientific applications

  • Integrate GIS-based visualization and spatial statistics into PFAS and groundwater assessments.

  • Automation of reporting deliverables and data management workflows

 

Water Business Line Collaboration

  • Leverage experience with hydrological modeling to contribute multidisciplinary insights for water reuse and climate-driven assessments

  • Contribute to Water Research Foundation Grant efforts and related partnerships

  • Contribute specialized expertise to stormwater monitoring and engineering projects, including predictive modeling for regulated discharges

  • Contribute to study design and data analysis for large-scale catchment studies

  • Provide forensic expertise for infrastructure-based source trackback studies

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering or other related discipline and 4+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Due to the nature of the role, we cannot offer sponsorship at this time.  

  • Successful candidate will have to pass background check, motor vehicle records check and a Drug screen/assessment.  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of multivariate statistical analyses applied to PFAS forensics

  • Knowledge of PFAS use history, naming conventions, kinetics and transformation mechanisms

  • Experience using statistical software packages and/or programming languages such as R, python, or Matlab

  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro

  • Proficient in standard office computer applications and software, such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access

  • PhD in Environmental Engineering or other related discipline

  • Experience collecting environmental samples for chemical analysis

  • Knowledge of environmental chemistry principles (i.e., environmental fate and transport)

  • Knowledge of analytical chemistry principles (i.e., quality assurance and quality control)

  • Working knowledge of instrumentation used for various classes of environmental analytes (i.e. GC/MS, ICP, GC-ECD, IC, etc.)

  • Experience in developing and implementing digital tools and data analytics services

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities

  • Fluent in Spanish
