Job Description

As a Senior Structural / Principal Engineer, you will lead the delivery of structural engineering work packages across a diverse portfolio that includes healthcare, aviation, transport, and commercial building sectors. This role is suited to a highly skilled engineer with deep technical capability, proven leadership experience, and a strong track record delivering multidisciplinary building projects within relevant market sectors.

  • Deliver structural engineering work packages, including designs, calculations, and documentation, with a focus on large-scale new buildings in complex site environments.
  • Apply advanced structural engineering principles, New Zealand standards, codes, and engineering requirements to building designs, calculations, and project deliverables.
  • Lead project delivery excellence through high-quality outputs, verification, and peer review activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across project teams, client stakeholders, and external contractors, working as a trusted advisor.
  • Coordinate across disciplines and provide clear explanations of technical issues to project teams and clients.
  • Mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and proactive team environment.

Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced Structural Engineer who excels in applying complex structural principles and has a strong foundation in technical design and leadership. While the following qualifications and experience are highly desired, we encourage all interested candidates to apply, even if you don’t tick every box.

  • Experienced in new build structural design and delivery, with 8+ years’ experience ideally in the healthcare sector.
  • Structural Engineering degree and strong NZ-based experience with an excellent understanding of local seismic design provisions (NZS 1170.5, NZS 3101, NZS 3404).
  • Solid grasp of capacity design and low-damage design principles.
  • Strong modelling/analysis skills, including Nonlinear Time History Analysis (NHLTA) and pushover analysis.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with contractors in ECI, Design & Build, and Alliance delivery models.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) designation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships in project and client teams.
  • Works well under pressure, manages priorities effectively, and delivers high-quality outputs.
  • Collaborative, proactive, and able to mentor junior engineers.
  • Highly desirable: Experience with low-damage systems (including Tectonus D‑MAX braces).
