Job Description

AECOM is seeking a motivated and experienced Water/Wastewater Project Manager to join our expanding water engineering practice in the Richmond, VA region.  The selected candidate will become part of an established water engineering practice working on prominent water/wastewater and wet weather remediation programs, sewer collection, potable water distribution and storage, and pumping station projects in the region and throughout Virginia.

This role will be Client-facing and must have the ability to manage and execute water/wastewater engineering projects by collaborating with clients, developing sound engineering solutions, and encouraging collaboration across project teams. They will work with, and sometimes act as, a project engineer(s)/technical lead(s), will interface with subconsultants, and will have direct involvement in project controls efforts. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities include, but will not be limited to:

  • Manage, plan and lead engineering design projects for water/wastewater infrastructure systems including treatment, collection, distribution, pumping and storage.
  • Support business development activities in the region.
  • Manages portfolio of clients with multiple projects.
  • May supervise mid to junior level engineers (all disciplines applicable), as well as project administration, project controls, scheduling, cost control, estimating and procurement representatives.
  • Responsible for the coordination and completion of projects on time within budget and within scope.
  • Develop estimates for engineering budget and schedule to meet project requirements.
  • Makes decisions on project direction to satisfy needs of clients.
  • Measures project performance using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Manages the relationship with the client and all stakeholders.
  • Performs risk management to minimize project risks.
  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
  • Oversee development of technical specification sections.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BS Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related degree + 8 years of water/wastewater engineering experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education. 
  • Proven experience managing engineering design projects for water/wastewater infrastructure systems including treatment, collection, distribution, pumping and storage.
  • Professional Engineers License, with ability to obtain a Professional Engineering License in the state of Virginia within one year of hiring date.
  • Solid knowledge of MS Office Suite, Microsoft Project or P6 Scheduling Software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering License in the state of Virginia.
  • 12+ years of related experience.
  • Working knowledge of Federal, State, and local jurisdiction permitting regulations for water/wastewater.
  • Ability to lead a project team, act as a client-facing representative of AECOM, identify resourcing needs, mentor staff, and work with a team of engineers to take projects from planning through construction.
  • Strong background in water and wastewater treatment plant facilities, processes, and construction management.
  • Strong background in water/wastewater conveyance systems and design.
  • Proven track record of delivering technically complex construction projects from inception to completion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in business development.
  • Must work independently with minimal supervision, and complete multiple technical tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Proficient/knowledgeable with drafting and design software such as AutoCAD, Civil3D, Revit, etc.
