Job Description
- Conducts floristic, vegetation, and habitat surveys across a range of terrestrial and freshwater environments, including targeted surveys for rare/protected species and sensitive habitats.
- Performs tree inventories / tree risk / arboricultural-style assessments where required, including measurement, tagging, mapping, and condition notes (as applicable to project scope).
- Identifies native and non-native plant species to species level where possible; recognises invasive species and signs of ecological degradation, and recommends appropriate management measures.
- Collects and manages botanical field data (e.g., species lists, abundance/cover, structure, phenology), including photo records, GPS points, and chain-of-custody for any samples/vouchers (where permitted).
- Produces high-quality technical deliverables, including baseline ecology sections, impact assessment inputs, constraints/opportunity plans, mitigation measures, and monitoring plans.
- Supports Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Biodiversity Impact Assessments (BIA), ecological constraints studies, and due diligence assignments by providing flora-specific analysis and interpretation. Understanding of the local EIA process in Singapore.
- Uses GIS and/or CAD to support habitat/vegetation mapping and spatial analysis; maintains accurate metadata and version control for figures, maps, and datasets.
- Interprets and applies relevant legislation, standards, permitting/approval conditions, and client requirements (e.g., protected species/habitat provisions, vegetation clearance constraints, restoration/offset requirements) to ensure compliance.
- Develops practical recommendations for avoidance, minimisation, restoration, and enhancement measures, and supports implementation planning (e.g., method statements, ecological clerk-of-works notes, planting palettes/specifications where required).
- Coordinates field logistics and resources (equipment, access permissions, site safety), and may supervise junior staff and/or subcontractors during surveys and reporting tasks.
- Communicates effectively with project managers, technical leads, and multi-disciplinary teams; contributes to client/stakeholder discussions with clear, evidence-based inputs.
- Supports proposal development and scope definition by providing effort estimates, survey methodologies, and technical inputs for flora and habitat workstreams.
- Has some understanding and experience of applying habitat restoration techniques
- Maintains strong health, safety, and quality practices in field and office settings; follows corporate HSE procedures and participates in risk assessments/toolbox briefings.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Nature Conservation, Nature Based Solutions or other related disciplines (e.g., civil engineering and environmental engineering) OR Bachelor’s degree plus equivalent years of experience in the environmental field.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in ecological consultancy, environmental engineering, environmental planning or environmental management sector. Qualified applicants will be considered for senior positions.
- Ability to use modeling software/s will be highly regarded.
- Candidates with graphic skills such as CAD or GIS, will be highly regarded.
- Candidates with proven project management ability will be highly regarded.
- Fluent spoken and written English.
- Strong communication skills (writing, speaking, and presentation) are essential qualities to successfully work on our teams with diverse disciplines and cultures.
