Job Description

AECOM’s West Region Strategic Communications Group is seeking a passionate bi-lingual Senior Community Engagement Specialist to join the AECOM team to assist in the delivery of large, complex infrastructure projects on both sides of the Texas/Mexico Border. This communication specialist professional will work collaboratively with AECOM's client and specialist teams and be accountable for leading stakeholder engagement and communications tasks.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Leading creation and implementation of Stakeholder Engagement and Communications Plans/strategies and executing related outreach.
  • Identifying and mapping key stakeholders for client projects. Conducting in-depth research and investigation including stakeholder and situational analysis and jurisdictional review.
  • Making tactical decisions on and prioritizing stakeholder and community engagement activities based on project and client requirements 
  • Collaborating with project teams to strategize on best practices and risk communications.
  • Engaging and informing stakeholders, communities, and residents on projects in-person and/or virtually, or through written materials.
  • Developing themes, core messages and collateral for multiple audiences in both English and Spanish, including local communities, statutory bodies, technical groups, and elected representatives.
  • Managing the drafting of content for stakeholder communication, fact sheets, FAQs, exhibit content, and other materials as needed.
  • Planning logistics, execution and facilitation of stakeholder or public meetings, workshops, open houses, focus groups, and other community outreach events, both virtually and in-person.
  • Developing presentations for meetings with various stakeholders within a client’s brand guidelines.
  • Providing acute attention to detail in the development, management and tracking of stakeholder communications and feedback.
  • Managing development of surveys and focus groups and other stakeholder engagement feedback mechanisms.
  • Performing work in accordance with agreed objectives, budget and timescale with little/no supervision.
  • Exercising sound judgment when communicating with internal and/or external clients or customers and develops relationships with key project contacts.
  • Leads project teams and may have direct reports along with Coaching entry-level/ mid-level staff members.
  • Responsible for quality checks and approvals of all client deliverables
  • Manages client communications and develops relationships with key contacts.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS + 6 years of related equivalency or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Bilingual fluency English/Spanish with experience working with Texas/Mexico Border communities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 + years of professional experience in a communications, community engagement or stakeholder management position.
  • 6 + years of relevant experience in a stakeholder management and/or communications management position, including experience on large infrastructure programs
  • 3 + years of professional experience working on large infrastructure projects or programs.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound knowledge, understanding, and experience of managing complex stakeholder relationships and establishing effective communications strategies in an operational and public-facing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing small teams (2-5 people) to implement effective communications, community engagement and stakeholder management plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings / workshops with groups of stakeholders in both English and Spanish.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills: this role requires continuous interaction with program and team leaders, client management, influential stakeholders and the public.
  • Experience with government relations, media relations, public relations, stakeholder analysis and facilitation.
