Job Description
The Transportation Planner will support AECOM’s Gulf Coast Transit & Rail team in delivering major transit corridor planning, BRT/rail studies, and implementation-ready programs. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in urban planning and GIS, with additional skills in engagement, graphic design, or project management. This role offers the opportunity to shape transformative mobility and infrastructure projects across Louisiana and the Gulf Coast.
Key Responsibilities
Support multimodal and transit planning studies, including corridor evaluations, service alternatives, and station area planning.
Use GIS tools (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online) to prepare mapping, spatial analyses, and visualizations.
Develop high-quality technical reports, graphics, and presentations summarizing planning findings and recommendations.
Support stakeholder and public engagement activities—create materials, manage feedback, and participate in meetings.
Assist in data collection and analysis for ridership forecasting, land use evaluation, and planning-level cost estimation.
Collaborate with engineering, design, and environmental teams to integrate planning deliverables into preliminary design.
Contribute to project coordination tasks—tracking schedules, deliverables, and budgets.
Participate in proposal development and other business development activities as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Geography, GIS, or a related discipline and 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education.
Familiarity with multimodal and transit planning concepts.
Demonstrated proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Preferred Qualifications
5–10 years of professional planning experience (urban, transportation, or related fields).
Experience with transit corridor or station area planning (BRT, light rail, commuter rail).
Graphic design skills using Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
Experience supporting community engagement, stakeholder facilitation, or outreach.
Familiarity with project management tools, budgeting, or schedule tracking.
Working knowledge of FTA funding programs, or related planning processes.
