Job Description
AECOM is currently seeking a Senior Power Supply & Distribution Systems Engineer with specialized skills in rail systems, to join our multidisciplinary Systems Engineering team and work on delivering an existing and future portfolio of projects.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop detailed PS&D designs specific to Transportation systems such as traction power substations and its sub-elements, power rail, disconnect switches, transfer switches, grounding switches, distribution panels, AARU controllers and resistor banks, OCS, blue light system, emergency power cutoff, backup generators, UPS, outdoor lighting systems, interfaces to utility power, SCADA I/Os, grounding, remote equipment cabinets, etc.
- Produce PS&D design deliverables such as single line diagrams, schematics, power sectioning diagrams, equipment and room layouts, cable and panel schedules, bill of materials, and others.
- Perform electrical studies, present findings and recommendations, and produce reports.
- Generate design reports for all phases of system design.
- Author test procedures and reports in support of design verification and validation during the project life cycle.
- Produce Issued for Construction drawing and document packages.
- Participate in the implementation phase of projects, such as Installation, Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, Record Drawings and final reports.
- Authoring procurement specifications, performing vendor bid evaluations and selection, manage vendors until final delivery.
- Interface with other technical disciplines such as Comms Systems, S&TCS, Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, Architectural, Trackwork, and Civil; including coordination and design of interfaces, both physical and functional.
- Participate in the production of 3D models of PS&D elements for space coordination with other design disciplines using Revit and BIM 360.
- Support the management of System Interfaces and creation of Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
- Lead technical interactions with clients, operators, and other major stakeholders.
- Manage and deliver technical training of client staff.
- Support the authoring of project plan documents.
- Support System Engineering and Assurance efforts such as Requirements Management, Verification & Validation, RAM, Safety Assurance, Quality Management, EMI/EMC, and others.
- Support cost estimates, project schedules and budgets.
- Perform technical review of other team members’ designs.
- Participate in project pursuit efforts.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior personnel as part of team development.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree + 8 years of relevant experience in PS&D design for rail and transit projects
- Professional Engineer designation
- Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10 years or more of relevant experience in the Canadian public rail and transit industry.
- Proven technical leadership and communication skills while representing the design team in front of external clients such as General Contractors or government representatives and understanding the sensitivities of those interactions.
- Experience with fourth rail, third rail, and OCS electrification methods.
- Experience in Stage of Good Repair projects.
- Experience in Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, Interface Management and Operations & Maintenance.
- Experience in Revit and BIM 360.
- Working knowledge of codes and standards applicable to rail projects such as NFPA 130, EN 50121 and others.
- Accustomed to operating within a multi-disciplinary project structure with responsibility for PS&D design.
- Self-motivated and able to work with limited direct supervision.
- Able to lead discussions with senior project staff, partners, clients and suppliers.
- Able to multitask due to concurrent projects.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
