Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Air Quality Scientist for employment in the Austin, Texas office. The successful candidate will work in AECOM’s Ambient Air Monitoring (AAM) Group – a recognized center of expertise within AECOM.  The successful candidate will primarily work independently, but will also need to interface with clients, contractors, and AECOM managers. AECOM is pleased to include you in a unique development opportunity, the Graduate Development Program (GDP). This program is designed to support your assimilation into the organization and assist with creating a foundation of knowledge for a successful career at AECOM. You will gain experience in your discipline through learning on the job and participate in development opportunities during the program, including access to AECOM's social media resources, group mentoring, and professional networking. The program also has learning activities that will be available to you, including webinars and on-line programs.

This position is expected to begin in January/February 2025.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Travel for field assignments to conduct quality assurance audits for ambient air monitoring networks.
  •  Generate and explain summary results.
  • Assist in writing reports and proposals.
  •  Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and solve instrument problems.
  •  Act as a resource to clients in order to answer technical questions and address appropriate issues.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and repair air monitoring instrumentation and equipment.
  • Prepare gas standards for laboratory and field use.
  • Assist with research, data analysis, and report writing.
  • Interact with field staff, clients, URS managers, and government agencies.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or related science.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
  • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Experience with ambient air monitoring equipment is a plus.
  • Knowledge in the practices required to generate valid scientific data.
  • Able to work both independently and in a project team environment.
  • Ability to record test data legibly, completely, and accurately.
  • Aptitude for operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Ability to recognize hazards and work safely in an industrial setting.
  • Show initiative and interest in professional development.
  • Possess good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, or hoisting of equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted.  
  • Frequent outdoor work in a variety of seasonal weather conditions. 
  • Frequent work at elevated heights requiring the use of portable ladders and/or climbing stairs to perform job duties.

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Austin, Texas.  The selected candidate must be available to work in Austin, Texas on a scheduled basis.
  • Candidate will submit to medical surveillance screening upon hire.
  • 50% field work is required.
