Job Description

AECOM is seeking a highly motivated and talented Water/Wastewater Engineer to support our Water Business line in our Philadelphia, PA Office. Clean water is our most critical resource, and we are expanding our team to address our clients' essential infrastructure needs. This position will apply your unique problem-solving abilities to assist our most important projects, including addressing the needs of changing regulatory requirements such as with PFAS, understanding the implications of aging infrastructure, and implementing state-of-the-art treatment technologies, among many other challenges in the industry. We have several exciting projects in both drinking and wastewater treatment applications as well as resource recovery of biosolids and energy and our own water treatability lab. Come further enhance our collaborative and driven team and work alongside our national practice leads for wastewater innovation and PFAS treatment based locally here in the Philadelphia region.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as technical resource and develop subject matter expertise as part of the east region wastewater practice, in support of east region wastewater project delivery service to municipal wastewater treatment service providers.
  • Conduct wastewater process technical evaluations, prepare engineering studies and plans, WWTP process modeling, preliminary and detailed design under the guidance of a senior engineer. These work activities may involve the full range of mainstream, side stream, sludge stabilization or biosolids management processes and support infrastructure.
  • Active involvement in wastewater industry community, including conferences, research and technology piloting activities. Submit abstracts and make presentations in technical sessions, at local and national conferences.
  • Formulate capital improvement plans for water and wastewater facilities, covering both short and long-term planning horizons.
  • Plan and execute pilot- and bench-scale experiments centered on wastewater process treatment technology concept understanding and scale up of applied practical innovation in wastewater treatment. 
  • Generate comprehensive reports, spreadsheets, charts, figures, and slides to effectively communicate observations, findings, and conclusions to audiences with varying technical expertise.
  • Contribute to collaborative work environment with team.
  • Adhere to established budget and schedule parameters with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or related field.
  • NCEES Engineer in Training (EIT) 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in civil or environmental engineering.
  • Working experience related to water/wastewater treatment, utility management and planning, and/or water resources.
  • Ability to communicate, present and coordinate effectively with diverse audience.
  • Positive attitude, good aptitude, and strong initiative.
