Job Description

AECOM's West Region Strategic Communications Group is looking for a senior Strategic Communications Specialist III to lead agency-level messaging strategy and content creation efforts for one of AECOM’s largest transportation clients in Texas.

This is a full-time staff augmentation role that will require a physical presence for at least three days a week in the client’s Downtown Austin office, with potential for full time in-person work. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Serving as Strategic Communications lead for the project’s technical consulting teams.
  • Communicating directly with client as a lead worker.
  • Collaborating with Design and Construction Project Managers and office management staff on tasks requiring strategic communications activities.
  • Creating communications plans and helping the project team strategize on best practices and risk communications.
  • Assisting the client with implementation of public communication campaigns and strategies.
  • Exercising sound judgment when communicating with internal and/or external clients or customers.
  • Developing presentations for meetings with various stakeholders within a client’s brand guidelines.
  • Writing content and guiding the preparation of documents and materials for use in communications efforts targeted to agency executives, board of directors, and major stakeholders like fact sheets, FAQs, PowerPoints, e-newsletters and emails.
  • Coordinating with other AECOM and client staff to prepare graphic displays and layouts for informational materials.
  • Managing, delegating, and performing quality control on work products from sub-discipline contributors (graphic designers, technical writers, social media content developers, etc.) to ensure that the overarching strategy is maintained, all deadlines are met, and all work products meet client standards.
  • Providing acute attention to detail in the development and tracking of stakeholder communications and materials.
  • Providing guidance and quality control on materials produced by technical or agency staff members.
  • Managing multiple projects with multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Assisting clients with media outreach as appropriate
  • Other tasks as directed by the client to support strategic communications during infrastructure projects underway in the community.

 

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • BA/BS + four years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency and/or education.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field, plus 4 years of strategic communications or public relations experience or demonstrated equivalency and/or education. Highly Preferred.
    • Experience leading strategic communications tasks on large infrastructure projects.
    • Experience working in or supporting the construction and/or transportation engineering industry.
    • Experience working with government agencies in and around the Austin, Texas area.
    • Ability to understand technical project information, develop a messaging and content strategy related to that information, and oversee the tasks within that strategy to execution.
    • Familiarity with the Adobe suite of tools
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with various departments within the company as well as clients.
    • Expert level skills with Microsoft Applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
